World Creativity and Innovation Day

  • World Creativity and Innovation Day (WCID) is celebrated annually on April 21 to highlight the pivotal role of creativity and innovation in problem-solving and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • The inception of WCID traces back to May 25, 2001, when Marci Segal, a creativity expert from Canada, established the day in Toronto.
  • Recognising the significance of creativity in human development, the United Nations General Assembly officially designated April 21 as World Creativity and Innovation Day in 2017 through Resolution 71/284.

National Civil Service Day

  • National Civil Services Day is celebrated every year in India on April 21 to appreciate the efforts and hard work of civil servants who contribute immensely to the country's smooth functioning.
  • The roots of this day go back to April 21, 1947, when Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Home Minister, addressed the first batch of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers at Metcalfe House, New Delhi. In his iconic speech, he referred to them as the "steel frame of India," underlining their crucial role in maintaining order, unity, and governance in a newly independent nation.
  • Since 2006 April 21 has been celebrated as National Civil Service Day.

  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) introduced World Liver Day to bring issues to light about liver illness and empower investment in liver disease research. It was first officially recognised on April 19, 2012, and has since developed popularity.
  • the theme for World Liver Day 2025 is 'Food is Medicine.'

World Heritage Day

  • April 18 every year is celebrated as World Heritage Day or International Day for Monuments and Sites.
  • The International Council on Monuments and Sites in 1982 suggested that April 18 should be celebrated as World Heritage Day. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation in its 22nd general conference in 1983 approved the date.
  • The theme for World Heritage Day 2025 is 'Heritage under Threat from Disasters and Conflicts: Preparedness and Learning from 60 Years of ICOMOS Actions.'

World Haemophilia Day

  • World Haemophilia Day is a global initiative to raise awareness about haemophilia–a rare inherited bleeding disorder. It is observed every year on April 17, highlighting the gravity of the disorder and the need for proper treatment.
  • World Haemophilia Day was founded in 1989 by the World Federation of Haemophilia to honour its founder Frank Schnabel, who played a pivotal role in raising awareness about haemophilia and dedicated his life to serving people suffering from the disorder.
  • The theme for World Haemophilia Day 2025 is 'Access for All: Women and Girls Bleed Too.'

  • World Art Day is celebrated on April 15 every year. The special occasion is marked annually to acknowledge the contributions of artists, emphasising the importance of art in our lives.
  • The idea behind World Art Day was officially conceived on April 15, 2012, during a General Assembly meeting of the International Association of Art (IAA) in Guadalajara, Mexico.
  • The special day was declared as a special tribute to the birthday of the famous artist Leonardo da Vinci, who is hailed as the symbol of freedom of expression and peace.
  • The theme for World Art Day 2025 is 'A Garden of Expression: Cultivating Community Through Art.'

Himachal Pradesh Day

  • Himachal Pradesh celebrated its 78th Foundation Day on April 15.
  • On April 15, 1948, the state was formed by merging 30 small and large princely states. Since then, April 15 has been observed every year as 'Himachal Pradesh Day'.
  • It became a Union Territory on November 1, 1956; however, on December 18, 1970, the State of Himachal Pradesh Act was passed by Parliament, and Himachal Pradesh was designated as the 18th state on January 25, 1971 with Shimla as its capital.
