National Forest Martyrs Day 2025: Honoring the Unsung Heroes of India's Forests

  • The Palamu Tiger Reserve hosted National Forest Martyrs' Day on September 11, 2025 at Betla National Park for the first time to commemorate forest personnel and officers who died in line of duty. 
  • "All forest personnel and officials of the three districts of this region: Garhwa, Latehar, and Palamu converged to pay tributes to those who died in line of duty.
  • They are unsung heroes who gave a supreme sacrifice to save forest and wildlife. The Forest Martyrs' Day dates back to 1730 when 363 members of the Bishnoi community were massacred at Khejarli protecting the forest and animals.
  • The ministry of forest, environment, and climate change launched this day in 2013.
