Former Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) chief Anil Dhasmana was appointed as National Technical Research Organisation, India's technical body that is responsible for geospatial intelligence and satellite imagery.
Dhasmana succeeded former Intelligence Bureau officer Satish Jha who demitted office.
Dhasmana, a 1981 batch Indian Police Service officer, is a Pakistan expert and was the lead planner of the Balakot air strikes in February 2019 after Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 40 CRPF soldiers in the Pulwama car bombing.

Former Canadian Prime Minister John Turner, who was in office for just 79 days and led his Liberal Party to a huge defeat in 1984, has died aged 91.
A lawyer by training, he served as justice and then finance minister from 1968-1975. He resigned after arguments with party leader Pierre Trudeau.
Turner resumed his legal work and nine years later won the party leadership.
He called an election and then presided over what observers say was one of the worst campaigns in Canadian history.
His gaffes combined with growing public fatigue with the Liberals, who had been in power for 20 of the previous 21 years, resulted in his party falling from 135 seats in the 282-member House of Commons to just 40.
The Conservatives, under the leadership of Brian Mulroney, swept to power with 211 seats.

Balli Durga Prasad Rao, a former state minister and three-time MLA, is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.
H D Deve Gowda Takes Oath as Rajya Sabha Member
Gowda, 87, was in June elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. This is the first time that the JD(S) leader has become a member of the Upper House since 1996.
When the House met for the day, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu called for oath-taking by newly elected members.
After taking oath in Kannada, Gowda greeted the chair with folded hands.

Forrest Gump Author Winston Groom Dies Aged 77
Writer Winston Groom, whose novel Forrest Gump was made into the hugely successful Oscar-winning 1994 film starring Tom Hanks, has died aged 77.
The book, about the childlike optimism of a slow-thinking but kind-hearted man, won six Oscars including best film and actor, plus three Golden Globes.
Directed by Robert Zemeckis and also starring Sally Field and Robin Wright, it made $683m (£526m).
Groom's death was confirmed by Alabama governor Kay Ivey.

P.R. Krishnakumar, Chancellor of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, and the managing director of the Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (Coimbatore) Limited, died of COVID-19 in Coimbatore. He was 69.
A recipient of Padma Shri, who played a major role in the preparation of the Ayush protocol, Krishnakumar was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in a private hospital in Coimbatore for over a week.

Former Chhattisgarh minister and veteran Congress leader Chanesh Ram Rathiya died of COVID-19. He was 78 years old.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters. His elder son Laljeet Singh Rathiya is currently a Congress legislator from Dharamjaigarh seat in Chhattisgarh.
Rathiya, a prominent tribal leader from north Chhattisgarh, was elected as an MLA for the first time in 1977 from Dharamjaigarh constituency in the then undivided Madhya Pradesh. He subsequently won five more Assembly elections in a row from the same seat.

Arts Scholar Kapila Vatsyayan Passed Away
Vatsyayan, who was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2011, was the founding director of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts. A former nominated member of the Rajya Sabha, she was also chairperson of the Asia Project at the IIC.
Scholar, author and connoisseur of the arts Kapila Vatsyayan died at her Delhi home. She was 92.
Vatsyayan was also the chairperson of the Asia Project at the IIC. She was the founding director of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.

Former India Cricketer Sadashiv Raoji Patil Dies
Former India player Sadashiv Raoji Patil, who represented the country in one Test match, died at his residence in Kolhapur.
He was 86 and is survived by wife and two daughters.
Patil, who was a pace bowling all-rounder, played a Test match against New Zealand in 1955.
He didn't get any more chance to play for the country.
Patil played 36 First Class matches for Maharashtra from 1952-1964, scoring 866 runs and taking 83 wickets.
He had also captained Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy.
