Indian Air Force conducts "Exercise Aakraman

  • The Indian Air Force conducted a large-scale wargame -- "Exercise Aakraman" -- in the central sector, focusing on enhancing offensive capabilities across both mountainous and ground-based terrains. The exercise covered a large area in the central sector, involving its mainstream fighter aircraft fleets led by the Rafale combat jets.
  • The aim of the exercise is to provide Air Force pilots with combat-realistic training scenarios, including engagements that mimic high-intensity conflict environments.

Quad Countries, 15 other Nations to Participate in Military Exercise in Australia

  • Quad countries — India, US, Japan and Australia — and 15 other nations will participate in the largest-ever exercise 'Talisman Sabre' which will be hosted by Australia.
  • More than 30,000 military personnel will be part of the exercise to be conducted from July 13 to August 4, 2025.
  • A part of the exercise will be conducted in Papua New Guinea, located in the north of Australia.
  • Talisman Sabre is the largest bilateral combined training activity between the Australian Defence Force and the United States military. This year, besides Australia and US, the participating partner nations include India, Japan, Canada, Fiji, France, Germany, Indonesia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga and the United Kingdom.
  • Talisman Sabre-2025 will focus on multi-domain war-fighting. Key activities will include amphibious and air-borne lodgements, firepower demonstrations, and combat across land, air, sea, space and cyber domains.

Indian Air Force Participates in Multinational Exercise Desert Flag-10 in UAE

  • A contingent of the Indian Air Force is in Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates and participating in Exercise Desert Flag-10. The exercise is being hosted by the UAE Air Force. The primary aim of the exercise is to undertake complex and diverse fighter engagements, with the exchange of operational knowledge and best practices with some of the most capable air forces in the world. The exercise is being held from April 21 to May 8.
  • Exercise Desert Flag-10 stands out as a premier air combat exercise due to its impressive roster of participating nations. Hosted by the UAE Air Force, the exercise brings together aerial contingents from twelve countries, creating a diverse and challenging training environment. Participating nations include Australia, Bahrain, France, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Republic of Korea, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States, alongside India.

Second Edition of Tri-services Future Warfare Course

  • The second edition of Tri-services Future Warfare Course for senior military officers is being held at Manekshaw Centre from April 21 to May 9. The three-week course focuses on how technology impacts war-fighting, "necessitating a re-look at the thinking, concepts, doctrines, strategies and tactics, techniques and procedures.
  • The course is being conducted under the aegis of Integrated Defence Staff headquarters and coordinated by the tri-services think-tank Centre for Joint Warfare Studies.
  • This edition features an enhanced curriculum covering specialised subjects and domain-specific warfare developments in military operations.
  • Building on the success of the first course held in September 2024, this expanded three-week programme continues the vision of Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan to prepare officers for the complex challenges of modern warfare.

US, Philippines Launch Exercise 'Balikatan' near Taiwan

  • The Philippine and US militaries kicked off three weeks of joint exercises that will simulate a full-scale battle scenario, as the two allies seek to deter to Beijing's ambitions in the disputed South China Sea.
  • Around 17,000 troops are taking part in the annual 'Balikatan', or 'shoulder to shoulder' exercise, which for the first time includes an integrated air and missile defence. The exercise is being held from April 21 to May 9, 2025.

India's First Defence MoU with Slovakia Through JCBL Group

  • India and Slovakia signed a significant defence Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering India's domestic defence manufacturing capabilities. This agreement, in April 2025, marks the first of its kind between the two countries. Under the partnership, JCBL Group's defence unit, Airbornics Defence & Space Pvt. Ltd. (ADSL), will collaborate with Slovakia to develop cutting-edge technologies for next-generation combat vehicles, strengthening India's indigenous manufacturing initiative. The MoU emphasises India's ongoing efforts to reduce its dependency on foreign defence imports by enhancing self-reliance in defence production.
