In a First, 100-year-old Rashtriya Indian Military College to Open its Doors for Girls

For the first time in its 100-year history, Dehradun's Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), which takes students from class VIII onwards and is regarded as a premier preparing ground for those aspiring to join the armed forces, will admit girls. "After the government opened the doors of National Defence Academy (NDA) to women, RIMC decided to follow suit. We will be admitting five girl students in July.
Established in March 1922 by the then British-Indian government, RIMC was meant to impart military training to the Indian youth, who could later be inducted as military officers in the then British-Indian Army. Since its inception, RIMC has trained only boys and acts as a feeder institute for NDA and the Naval Academy.

Australia's AARC Tie up with India's CLAWS

In March Lt Gen Richard Burr, the Chief of the Australian Army visited India for three days. The Australian Army Chief paid a visit to the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), an Indian Army think tank in New Delhi.
Lt. Gen Richard Burr met with Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Manoj Pande, Chairman, Board of Governors, CLAWS, and Director CLAWS, Lt Gen Dr Ranbir Singh (Retd). CLAWS research efforts and outreach strategies were briefed to the visiting General. On the sidelines of the tour, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Australian Army Research Centre (AARC) and the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) to create academic cooperation and engagement.

Air Marshal B. C. Sekhar is New Commandant of IAFA

Air Marshal B. Chandra Sekhar, recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), was named Commandant of the Indian Air Force Academy. Air Marshal B. Chandra Sekhar is a Telangana native who attended school in Hyderabad before enrolling at the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla. He was commissioned in the Indian Air Force on December 21, 1984, after attending Defence Services Staff College Wellington, Flying Instructors' School, College of Defence Management, and National Defence College New Delhi.

Dharma Guardian 2022

At Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre in Belagavi, Karnataka, the army contingents of India and Japan together carried out mock drills during the joint military exercise 'Dharma Guardian 2022'.
This annual military exercise between the armies of India and Japan commenced on 27th February and concluded on 10th March 2022.
Dharma Guardian is an annual military exercise that is being conducted in India since 2018.
Platoon level joint training on operations in semi-urban or urban terrain and the jungle is covered in this exercise.
Under this exercise special emphasis is given to enhancing the tactical skills required to fight global terrorism. It also looks to enhance inter-operability between both armies and to promote Army to Army relations.
In this 12 day long joint exercise, the Indian Army's 15th Battalion the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment and the 30th Infantry Regiment of Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces (JGSDF) participated.

Iran Puts New Military Satellite in Orbit

Iran successfully placed a military satellite in orbit, as talks on reviving a 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and major powers reached a critical stage.
Iran's second military satellite -- named Nour-2 -- was launched into space by the Qassed rocket of the aerospace wing of the Revolutionary Guards and successfully placed in orbit 500 kilometres (310 miles) above the Earth.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps described the Nour-2 as a "reconnaissance satellite".
This satellite would orbit the Earth every 90 minutes, and its mission will last at least three years.

Saudi, Lockheed Martin in Missile Defence Deal

Saudi Arabia announced a deal with US firm Lockheed Martin to manufacture elements of the missile defences of the Gulf state, the target of frequent cross-border attacks by rebels in Yemen.
Its military industries authority approved two projects to produce launchers and other equipment used in the THAAD anti-missile defence system.
The announcement came on the sidelines of an international arms show which opened Sunday in the Saudi capital.
The United States, the oil-rich kingdom's top ally, had deployed THAAD and Patriot defence systems in Saudi Arabia in October 2019 at a time of heightened tensions with Riyadh's regional rival Tehran.

India-Sri Lanka Maritime Exercise SLINEX Begins in Visakhapatnam

The ninth edition of the India-Sri Lanka bilateral maritime exercise SLINEX is underway at Visakhapatnam with an aim to enhance interoperability and improve mutual understanding between the navies of the two neighbouring countries in the strategically significant Indian Ocean Region.
SLINEX (Sri Lanka–India Naval Exercise) is being conducted in two phases. The first one, the harbour phase at Visakhapatnam on March 7 and 8, followed by the sea phase on March 9 and 10 in the Bay of Bengal.
SLINEX aims to enhance interoperability, improve mutual understanding and also exchange best practices and procedures for multi-faceted maritime operations between both navies.
