Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Integrated Simulator Complex at Southern Naval Command

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Integrated Simulator Complex (ISC) 'Dhruv' at the Southern Naval Command. The ISC 'Dhruv' hosts modern state-of-the-art indigenously-built simulators that will significantly enhance practical training in the Indian Navy.
These simulators are envisaged to give real-time experience on navigation, fleet operations and naval tactics. These simulators will also be utilised for training of personnel from friendly countries.

Defence Ministry Signs MoU with Private Firm to Generate Employment for Ex-servicemen

The Ministry of Defence signed a memorandum of understanding with a private firm to facilitate the re-employment of ex-servicemen.
The Directorate General (Resettlement) under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare of the defence ministry signed an MoU with Adecco India Private Limited to facilitate the re-employment of ex-servicemen, the statement said.
Adecco is a staffing and recruitment solutions provider with specialisation in outsourcing and consulting services.
The objective is to bring corporate companies and ex-servicemen on a common platform to generate employment opportunities in various sectors such as IT, e-commerce, logistics, telecom, aerospace and defence, facility management, security, digital assessment services, power and energy, manufacturing, chemical and agro.

India to Gift Corvette INS Kirpan to Vietnam

India will gift Vietnam an in-service warship as a gesture of friendship and expanding military ties between the nations. Missile Corvette INS Kirpan - a Khukri class warship commissioned in 1991 - will soon be handed over to the Vietnam People's Navy.
The announcement was made during a meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Vietnamese counterpart General Phan Van Gang in New Delhi. The focus of the visit was on enhancing military ties, with maritime security and defence industrial cooperation key to the discussions.
India has been steadily expanding defence ties with Vietnam over the years, with a landmark military logistics sharing pact signed in 2022 to enhance interoperability and jointness.

Ravi Sinha New RAW Chief

Senior IPS officer Ravi Sinha was appointed as the new chief of India's external intelligence agency RAW.
Sinha is a 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre.
Sinha, who has had an over two-decade-long stint in the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), is at present the second-in-command in the organisation. Before being promoted, he was looking after the operations wing.
Sinha has served in Jammu and Kashmir, the northeast and foreign countries in the past.
His predecessor Goel was appointed R&AW chief for two years in June 2019. He was later given two extensions of one year each in 2021 and June 2022.

Indian Army Contingent Participates in Multinational Joint Exercise Ex Khaan Quest 2023′ in Mon...

As per a release by the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Army contingent is participating in the Multinational Peacekeeping Joint Exercise 'Ex Khaan Quest 2023' in Mongolia, which is scheduled from June 19 to July 2, 2023.
The Multinational Peacekeeping Joint Exercise 'Ex Khaan Quest 2023' featuring participation from military contingents and observers from over 20 countries commenced in Mongolia.
Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, the Hon'ble President of Mongolia inaugurated the Exercise in a ceremony organised at the exercise location in Mongolia. The exercise is co-sponsored by Mongolian Armed Forces (MAF) and the United States Army Pacific Command (USARPAC).
The Indian Army is represented by a contingent from the Garhwal Rifles. The 14-day exercise is aimed at enhancing the interoperability of the participating nations, for sharing experiences and training uniformed personnel for the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (UNPKO).

India Moves Ahead with Creation of Theatre Commands for Integrated war-Fighting

India is resolutely advancing its efforts to establish theatre commands, aiming to build an integrated war-fighting machinery in a cost-effective manner. After addressing various concerns, a consensus was reached among the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force regarding the plan.
The revised proposal entails the establishment of three integrated theatre commands, each led by a senior three-star general (Lieutenant Generals, Air Marshals, or Vice Admirals). These commands will be responsible for managing the northern borders with China, the western front with Pakistan, and a maritime command in peninsular India.

First Batch of 19,000 Agniveers Passes Out, to Join Army

The first batch of 19,000 Agniveers, who commenced training on January 1, passed out of training centres across the country. Oath-taking ceremonies were conducted to mark the culmination of their training.
Now, the Agniveers will undergo advance training and are scheduled to join their respective Army units in last week of July or first week of August. More than 19,000 Agniveers had begun training at 40 centres across the country in specially curated courses.

DRDO, Indian Navy Demonstrate Command and Control of TAPAS UAV from Ground Station to Warship

In a remarkable feat, the Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out the transfer of command and control capabilities of TAPAS (Tactical Advanced Platform for Aerial Surveillance) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
The demonstration involved commanding the UAV from a distant ground station to the onboard INS Subhadra, a warship situated 148 km away from Karnataka's Karwar naval base.
TAPAS UAV operated at an altitude of 20,000 feet above sea level and completed three-hour and 30-minute flight, with the INS Subhadra assuming control of the operations for 40 minutes.
The TAPAS UAV, developed by DRDO, is a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle. The vehicle, which was publicly showcased during its first flight at Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru, has a range of more than 18 hours and can operate at altitudes of up to 28,000 feet. It was developed in response to the ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, Tracking, and Reconnaissance) requirements of the tri-services.

Defence Ministry Approves Acquisition of 31 MQ-9 Reaper Armed Drones from US

The Ministry of Defence approved the acquisition MQ-9B Reaper armed drones from the US during a Defence Acquisition Council meeting led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
India will procure 31 armable MQ-9B SeaGuardian drones made by General Atomics, an American energy and defence company. The three services are likely to each receive an equal number of these drones, which are designed for border region surveillance: eight for the Indian Army, eight for the Indian Air Force, and maybe fifteen for the Indian Navy.

INS Vikramaditya Back in Action, Navy to Get 2 more Romeo Helicopters

The Indian Navy will later this month (June 2023) receive two MH-60 Romeo anti-submarine warfare helicopters, which will be deployed on board the INS Vikramaditya that has been operationalised after an exhaustive refit lasting nearly two and half years.
As per reports, the two helicopters will be delivered to India by the US government around the time (in June) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on an official visit to the country.
With the two, the Navy will have a total of five of these state-of-the-art helicopters, which will be deployed on the INS Vikramaditya, India's only operational aircraft carrier.
While the Navy commissioned indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in September last year, it is not yet operational and is set undergo four-five months of 'guarantee refit' later this month. Under this, the ship and its machinery will be examined like any new vessel under a guarantee period.
The Navy had announced the culmination of an exercise that showcased its capability and power to operate two aircraft carriers, with both INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant sailing together with their fleets. This involved the coordinated deployment of more than 35 aircraft in the Arabian Sea.
