Health and Defence Ministries to Set up Dedicated Tele MANAS Cell for Armed Forces

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to facilitate collaboration between the two Ministries in operating a special cell of Tele MANAS, the National Telemental Health Helpline of MoHFW, as a pilot project for a period of two years at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune. The MoU was signed by Aradhna Patnaik, AS & MD of MoHFW, and Lt General Daljit Singh, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services.
  • Tele MANAS is the digital extension of the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), offering comprehensive, integrated, and inclusive 24/7 tele-mental health services. The initiative provides a toll-free number, 14416, in each State and Union Territory (UT) for easy access to mental health support.

MoD Inks MoUs with 4 Banks to Onboard them as SPARSH Service Centres

  • The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) of the Ministry of Defence signed MoUs with four banks to onboard them as SPARSH service centres across 1,128 branches of these banks in the country. The System for Pension Administration (RAKSHA) or SPARSH is a web-based system for processing pension claims and crediting the pension directly into the bank accounts of defence pensioners without any external intermediary.
  • The four banks with which DAD signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are: Bank of India, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank.
  • The MoUs will provide last-mile connectivity to pensioners, especially in remote areas where they do not have the technical wherewithal to log on to SPARSH.
  • SPARSH is an initiative of the Ministry of Defence to provide a comprehensive solution to the defence pensioners. It is a fundamental change in managing defence pensions as it focuses on bringing in efficiency, responsiveness and transparency.

Pakistan Army Gets Minority Woman Brigadier in Historic First

  • Helen Mary Roberts, serving in the Pakistan Army Medical Corps, made history by becoming the first woman from the Christian and minority community to achieve the rank of brigadier in the Muslim-majority country.
  • Roberts was among Pakistan Army officers promoted as brigadiers and full colonels by the Selection Board.
  • Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Helen on her promotion as Brigadier, saying the whole nation was proud of her and thousands of hardworking women like her from minority communities who are serving the country with distinction.
  • Brigadier Helen is a senior pathologist and has been serving in the Pakistan Army for the last 26 years.

'INS Mysore' Celebrates Silver Jubilee

  • 'INS Mysore', the front-line destroyer of the Eastern Fleet, celebrated its silver jubilee, marking 25 years of service to the nation. The ship, indigenously designed and constructed, is the second of the Delhi class destroyers and has rendered exemplary service to the country.
  • INS Mysore has participated in multiple key missions and operations, earning accolades and honours. The ship is affiliated with the Madras Regiment of the Indian Army, strengthening the bond between the two services.

IAF Takes Part in US-led Red Flag-Alaska for Multi-nation Military Drills

  • The Indian Air Force joined a 16-day multi-nation mega military exercise in Alaska in the US that is designed to provide realistic training to participating forces in a simulated combat environment.
  • The IAF deployed Rafale fighter jets for the `Red Flag' exercise in Alaska in the US from May 30 to June 14. Approximately 3100 service members are expected to fly, maintain and support more than 100 aircraft during the exercise.
  • The `Red Flag' exercise is designed to provide realistic training in a simulated combat environment enabling joint combined forces to exchange tactics, techniques and procedures while improving interoperability with fellow service members.

India Successfully Test-fires Rudra-II Air-to-Surface Missile from Su-30 Fighter Jet

  • India achieved a significant milestone in its defence capabilities as it successfully test-fired a RudraM-II air-to-surface missile from a Su-30 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) off the coast of Odisha. The defence ministry confirmed that the flight-testing of the missile met all trial objectives, marking a crucial advancement in India's indigenously-developed solid-propelled air-launched missile system.
  • The RudraM-II missile incorporates state-of-the-art indigenous technologies developed by various DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) laboratories.
  • Rudram is India's first anti-radiation missile (ARM), is an air-to-surface missile.
  • While RudraM-1 primarily aims at Suppression of Enemy Air Defences (SEAD), advanced versions like RudraM-2 and RudraM-3 are under development with ranges of 350 and 550 km, respectively.
