French Open Tennis: Rafael Nadal Wins Men's Singles Title

  • Rafael Nadal crushed Casper Ruud to lift a record-extending 14th French Open trophy and increase his lead at the top of the list of men's Grand Slam champions. There was a sense of deja vu as the Spaniard, who turned 36, swept aside Norwegian Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in Paris to ensure he has won every time he has reached the final at the claycourt Grand Slam.
  • Victory gave Nadal a record-extending 22nd Grand Slam title and put him two clear of world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Swiss Roger Federer in the men's race for the most major titles. Similar to his leadup to the Melbourne Park major, Nadal arrived at Roland Garros with persistent fitness doubts after suffering a rib stress fracture and a chronic foot injury.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah Launches Khelo India Youth Games -2021 in Haryana's Panchkula

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Khelo India Youth Games in Panchkula, Haryana. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Nishith Pramanik were also present at the inauguration ceremony. In this great sports program, more than 200 students presented a colorful program.
  • There is a lot of enthusiasm among the players and sports lovers about the games of Khelo India Youth Games. A lot of programs are being presented at the venue for the players and spectators. The event started with the national anthem. Public can watch the live telecast of the entire tournament of these great games on Star Sports sitting at home. Overall, 4,700 athletes including 2,262 girls will compete for 269 gold, 269 silver and 358 bronze medals in 25 sports at the Khelo India Youth Games.

Iga Swiatek Wins French Open 2022, Beats Coco Gauff

  • World number one Iga Swiatek of Poland crushed American Coco Gauff 6-1 6-3 in the final to win the French Open women's singles title. It was the second Grand Slam title for the 21-year-old Swiatek, who also triumphed at Roland Garros in 2020. The victory on Court Philippe Chatrier against the 18-year-old Gauff, who was playing her first Grand Slam final, extended Swiatek's winning run to 35 matches.
  • Swiatek's unbeaten run equals one by Venus Williams in 2000 as the longest this century. She has emerged as a dominant figure in tennis, with 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams out of action for nearly a year and three-time major champ Ash Barty announcing in March 2022 she would retire at age 25 and relinquish the No. 1 ranking.

Agrentina Beat Italy to Win 2022 Finalissima Championship

  • Lionel Messi stars as Argentina claimed their win against European champions Italy in the 2022 Finalissima Championship at Wembley by 3-0. Lionel Messi has received the Man of the Match trophy for the second time in his career, he won his first trophy in Barcelona (2011). Messi has made 46 goal contributions in the 45 finals that he has played in his career.
  • Player of the match Lionel Messi won a trophy at Wembley for the second time in his career; his Barcelona side won 3-1 against Manchester United at the same venue in the 2011 UEFA Champions League final.

South Korea Wins Men's Asia Cup Hockey Tournament in Jakarta

  • Korea dashed Malaysia's hopes of a maiden Hero Asia Cup trophy as they reigned supreme with a thrilling 2-1 final victory at the GBK Sports Arena in Jakarta. This is the fifth time the Korean side have lifted the prestigious trophy. They have won the title in 1994, 1999, 2009 and 2013.
  • Hero Top scorer of the tournament was Razie Rahim of Malaysia who scored 13 goals
  • Having won the Asian Champions Trophy in December 2021, Korea looked like a confident bunch going into the final, a place they earned by pipping India in a 3-3 draw. The team, with experienced players, recovered well in time to put up a good fight against the Malaysian unit who looked poised to win the title race, not having lost a single match in the tournament.

Para-athlete Vinod Kumar Banned for Intentional Misrepresentation at Tokyo

  • Board of Appeal of Classification (BAC) banned para-athlete, discus thrower, Vinod Kumar for two years (Until 2023) for 'intentional misrepresentation'. He intentionally misrepresented his abilities when he presented for classification at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
  • He won the bronze medal in the discus throw event (F52 category) at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. At the Tokyo games, he gave a best throw of 19.91m to finish third behind Piotr Kosewicz (20.02m) of Poland and Velimir Sandor (19.98m) of Croatia.

Coco Gauff Enters French Open Title Clash, Becomes Youngest Grand Slam Finalist in 18 Years

  • Coco Gauff will face world number one Iga Swiatek for the French Open title after the teenager eased into her maiden Grand Slam final with a straight-sets victory over Martina Trevisan. The 18-year-old American claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win in a nervous match which saw both players featuring in a major semi-final for the first time. Gauff is the youngest Grand Slam finalist since Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon in 2004.
  • The players made 37 unforced errors between them in a poor first set before Gauff upped her game in the second.
  • The 18th seed will be a heavy underdog against Swiatek, who is on a 34-match winning streak, in final match.

India Wins First ever Medal at the IBSA Judo Grand Prix

  • In Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan, India earned its first ever medal at the IBSA Judo Grand Prix. The Indian Blind and Para Judo Association's Judoka Kapil Parmar deserves heartfelt praising for bringing medals to the country. It's worth noting that 18 of the 21 countries that competed won medals. Several countries, including Iraq, Switzerland, and India, earned their first medals in the IBSA Grand Prix as a result of these.
  • This Kazakh city hosted the IBSA Grand Prix, and it was here that we saw this universality between countries come to life, as well as the challenge of earning any medal.
  • After two days of thrilling competition in Nur-Sultan, the 2022 IBSA Judo Grand Prix Kazakhstan came to a close. More than a hundred judokas from 21 countries competed for gold, and Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan, Romania, Japan, Brazil, and Kazakhstan all ascended to the top of the podiums on the opening day.

Asia Cup Hockey: India Beat Japan 1-0 to Clinch Bronze Medal

  • The young Indian men's hockey team produced a spirited performance to beat Japan 1-0 and clinch the bronze medal in the Asia Cup. After missing out of a place in the title clash on goal difference following an exciting 4-4 draw with South Korea, defending champions India came out with purpose and scored a field goal through Raj Kumar Pal as early as in the seventh minute of the game and then defended in numbers to seal the deal.
  • The Japanese put relentless pressure on the Indian citadel in the final two quarters in search of the equaliser but the Birendra-Lakra side stood like a rock to deny their opponents.
