NASA launches DART Spacecraft on a Mission to Smash into Asteroid
NASA launched a spacecraft with one simple mission: Smash into an asteroid at 15,000 miles per hour.
The mission, the Double Asteroid Redirection Test, or DART, left Earth to test whether slamming a spacecraft into an asteroid can nudge it into a different trajectory. Results from the test, if successful, will come in handy if NASA and other space agencies ever need to deflect an asteroid to save Earth and avert a catastrophic impact.
NASA is crashing DART into an asteroid to test, for the first time, a method of planetary defense that could one day save a city, or maybe the whole planet, from a catastrophic asteroid impact.

NASA Set to Launch a New Laser Test to Speed Up Space Communications
US space agency NASA is all set for a new era of laser services, after the mission was delayed for two years. NASA's Laser Communications Relay Demonstration (LCRD) is ready for launch on December 4.
It will ride to space on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V-551 rocket from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida.
LCRD will showcase the unique capabilities of optical communications to increase bandwidth for communicating in space while reducing size, weight, and power requirements. LCRD will fly as a payload on Space Test Programme Satellite-6 (STPSat-6), the primary spacecraft of the Space Test Programme 3 (STP-3) mission for the Department of Defense. The LCRD will be NASA's first end-to-end laser relay system, sending and receiving data over invisible infrared lasers at a rate of approximately 1.2 gigabits per second from geo-synchronous orbit to Earth.
With data rates 10 to 100 times higher than traditional radio frequency systems, laser communications systems will provide future missions with extraordinary data capabilities.

China Launches New Satellite from Taiyuan Center in Shanxi Province
China launched a new satellite from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the northern province of Shanxi.
The satellite, Gaofen-11 03, was launched by a Long March-4B rocket and entered the planned orbit successfully.
The launch marked the 397th mission for the Long March series carrier rockets.

Hubble Space Telescope Spots Infant Star in IC 2631
Astronomers using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope spotted a protostar called J1672835.29-763111.64 (J1672 for short).
The J1672 protostar resides in IC 2631, a reflection nebula located some 500 light-years away in the southern constellation of Chamaeleon.
These objects are part of the Chamaeleon Complex, a large region of gas and dust clouds that harbors numerous newborn and still-forming stars.
Protostars shine with the heat energy released by clouds contracting around them and the accumulation of material from the nearby gas and dust.

Amateur Astronomer Discovers New Dwarf Galaxy
Amateur astronomers discovered a new drawf Galaxy. Named Pisces VII/Triangulum (Tri) III, the newly-discovered galaxy is an ultra-faint dwarf satellite candidate of the Triangulum galaxy (also known as Messier 33 or M33).
Pisces VII/ Tri III was discovered in the Pisces constellation by the amateur astronomer Giuseppe Donatiello using the public imaging data from the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys.
The discovery was subsequently confirmed by a visual inspection of the SDSS DR9 images and follow-up observations using the Italian Telescopio Nazionale Galileo.
Pisces VII/ Tri III lies at a projected distance of 72,000 parsecs (234,833 light-years) from the Triangulum Galaxy.
