China Successfully Launches First Lab Module for its Space Station

  • China successfully launched the first lab module of its under-construction space station.
  • The Long March-5B Y3 carrier rocket, carrying Wentian, blasted off from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site on the coast of the southern island province of Hainan.
  • The new module would function both as a backup of the core module and as a powerful scientific experiment platform in the Tiangong space station currently being built by the country.

Ookla's Speedtest Global Index June 2022: India Ranks 118

  • India's rankings fell by three spots in the median mobile speeds, according to Ookla's Speedtest Global Index. India was at number 115th spot in May 2022, but it dropped down to 118th in June. In April and May, India's mobile broadband speeds had improved. But the month of June 2022, saw the median mobile download speeds in India decrease from 14.28 Mbps in May to 14.00 Mbps, according to the data.
  • India's median download speeds on fixed broadband marked an improvement at 48.11 Mbps in June 2022, from 47.86 Mbps in the previous month. This pushed the country's global ranking three notches higher, to 72nd spot in June 2022 from 75th in May 2022.
  • According to the June Speedtest Global Index:
  • Norway continues to be at the No.1 spot for overall global median mobile speeds, while Chile has reclaimed its No.1 position from Singapore, which landed at the No.2 spot for overall global fixed broadband speeds.

'Human Spaceflight Expo' at Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium

  • Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO Chairman S. Somnath along with other senior scientists inaugurated the Human Space Flight Expo at Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Bengaluru to commemorate the Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav.
  • Along with an interactive model of Gaganyaan, there were other scaled models of launch vehicles, satellites, space suits and Indian space station. The expo also offered a dome show, lectures by eminent personalities, display of ISRO models, technologies for human space flight missions, interactive games, science activities and competitions for students.

PM Unveils Varuna India's First Human Passenger Drone

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled Varuna, India's first passenger drone.
  • Varuna, India's first drone that can carry human payload, has a range of 25 km. The drone can carry 130 kg payload and has 25-33 minutes of flight time.
  • This 'Varuna' drone has been designed and developed by a start-up and has the capacity to carry one person inside.
  • According to Sagar Defence Founder and CEO Nikunj Parashar, this is India's first electronic human carrying platform and the drone has been specially made for the Indian Navy, where the force can initially use it in transferring materials from one ship to another in future. A patient can also be taken to the hospital.

To achieve this milestone, NASA developed a new type of spectrometer that measures the energy of plasmas with extremely high resolution.

  • Mindtree, a global technology services and digital transformation company, partnered with Rubrik, the Zero Trust Data Security Company, to launch a unified cyber-recovery platform named MINDTREE VAULT.
  • The platform combines Mindtree's program management, cloud, data, and cybersecurity capabilities, best practices, and accelerators, with Rubrik's data resilience, data observability, and data recovery capabilities. It enables organizations to work through the full scope of recovery, including assessment, discovery, migration with ongoing management services, and pilots for proof-of-concept projects.
