Blue Dart Express Signs UNFCCC Climate Neutral Now Pledge

Blue Dart signed the 'Climate Neutral Now' (CNN) pledge by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Climate Neutral Now is an Initiative to encourage and support the interested stakeholders to act now in order to achieve a climate neutral world by 2050.
Blue Dart, is a part of the Deutsche Post DHL (DPDHL) Group. The Group has adopted a package of measures worth up to 7-billion Euros to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
The initiative is a tool to promote voluntary action on climate change. Blue Dart has already invested extensively in remaining a Sustainable Provider of Choice by being the first in the industry to set quantified carbon-reduction targets.

Gujarat Government Inks Agreement with Isha Outreach to Conserve Soil

Gujarat's Climate Change Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to join the worldwide 'Save Soil' initiative. Sadhguru, the Founder and Spiritual Leader of Isha Outreach, and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Ahmedabad. Jaggi Sadguru has set out on a 100-day motorcycle tour to raise awareness about the soil regeneration campaign throughout the world. The 30,000-kilometer journey through Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East is an attempt to raise awareness among policymakers on the importance of soil. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was in Gujarat as part of this tour to sign an MOU on 'Save Soil.'
In this regard, during the time of Narendra Modi as Gujarat's Chief Minister in 2006-07, Gujarat launched a foresight effort called "Soil Health Card" to protect the health and condition of the state's soil. In the state, there are 115 soil health laboratories that measure nutrient levels in the soil. The 'Soil Health Card' plan has now been deployed across the country, thanks to the Prime Minister's directive.

NTPC Releases 'Biodiversity Policy 2022' for Restoring Ecosystem

NTPC Limited renewed the Biodiversity Policy 2022 to set up a comprehensive vision and guiding principle for conservation, restoration, and enhancement of biodiversity. The objectives of policy are aligned with environmental and sustainability policies. The policy also aims to adopt systematic consideration of local threats to biodiversity beyond the company's business activities.
NTPC was the first PSU to issue Biodiversity Policy in 2018. NTPC also became a member of the India Business & Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI) in 2018. NTPC is also collaborating with local communities, organizations, regulatory agencies and research institutes of national/international repute in the field of biodiversity.

Geological Survey of India: Bihar has INDIA'S Largest Gold Reserves

A survey by the Geological Survey of India stated that a gold reserve of around 222.88 million tonnes including 27.6 tonnes of mineral-rich ore are present in the Jamui district of Bihar. The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar decided to give permission for the exploration of what is being called as India's largest gold reserve.
The State Mines and Geology Department is in consultation with agencies engaged in the exploration, including GSI and the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), for the exploration of gold reserves in Jamui.
The top official added that the consultation process had started after analysing the survey findings which indicated the presence of gold in areas such as Karmatia, Jhajha and Sono in the Jamui district.
The Bihar government is likely to sign a memorandum of understanding with a central agency or agencies for G3 (preliminary) stage exploration within a month's time, adding that in certain areas G2 (general) exploration can also be carried out.

New Arunachal Monkey Named after Sela Pass

A new species of old world monkey, "The Sela Macaque" was geographically separated from the Arunachal Macaque by the Sela, an eastern Himalayan pass located at an altitude of 13,700 feet. Sela macaque (Macaca selai), the new-to-science primate was identified and analysed by a team of experts from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and the University of Calcutta.
Phylogenetics relates to the evolutionary development and diversification of a species or group of organisms. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that the Sela macaque was geographically separated from the Arunachal macaque ( Macaca munzala) of the Tawang district by Sela. This mountain pass acted as a barrier by restricting the migration of individuals of these two species for approximately two million years. Sela is situated between Dirang and Tawang towns in western Arunachal Pradesh.

Adani Green Arm Commissions India's First Wind-solar Hybrid Power Plant in Jaisalmer

In a major push to India's green energy drive, Adani Green subsidiary Adani Hybrid Energy Jaisalmer One Limited commissioned a 390 MW wind-solar hybrid power plant at Jaisalmer. The plant is India's first wind and solar hybrid power generation plant. The hybrid power plant, integrated through solar and wind power generation, harnesses the full potential of renewable energy by resolving the intermittency of the generation and provides a more reliable solution to meet the rising power demand.
The new plant has a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) with tariff at Rs. 2.69 per kWh, well below the Average Power Procurement Cost (APPC) at national level, delivering access to affordable, modern, and clean energy to all.

WEF Forms Indian CEOs' Alliance to Supercharge Race to Net-zero

The World Economic Forum announced a new "Alliance of CEO Climate Action Leaders India" that will work towards fast-tracking decarbonisation pathways along India's net-zero journey. The Alliance brings together chief executives from India's leading businesses. It is part of the Forum's Climate Action Platform and will build upon learnings from global projects such as the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders and the First Movers Coalition.
The Alliance will serve as a high-level platform to support business leaders in planning and implementing plans and programmes to achieve climate targets, including net-zero economic growth.
