Book on Rare Varnams

  •  Suryakala Foundation for Performing Arts will release the book 'Varna Varnanam - an exposition of select varnams,' authored by Kanakam Devaguptapu later in February at the Music Academy Mini Hall.
  • V.P. Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhananjayan will release the book, the first copy of which will be received by Lakshmi Viswanathan and S. Sowmya.
  • 'Varna Varnanam,' the first book authored by Kanakam Devaguptapu, a music teacher for over 20 years and a researcher, is an exposition of 26 lesser known varnams.

HT Remains Undisputed Leader in Delhi and NCR

  • Hindustan Times continues to be the undisputed No. 1 English-language newspaper for the 18th time in a row in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1.7 million readers, the latest Indian Readership Survey shows.
  • Published by HT Media Ltd, HT has also retained its spot as the second most read English newspaper in the country, with 3.2 million readers. The closest competitor in Delhi-NCR is The Times of India, trailing at 1.4 million readers.
  • HT continues to strengthen its presence in Punjab and has emerged the No. 1 newspaper of the region again, with a readership of 352,000. In Mumbai, HT is a strong No. 2 with a readership of 859,000.

Malala Pens New Book

  •  Nobel Peace Prize winner and Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai is coming up with a new book, charting her experiences travelling the world and visiting refugee camps.
  • The book is titled "We are Displaced".
  • The publishers of the book are Weidenfeld & Nicolson and Hachette India.
  • In the book, which is part memoir, part communal storytelling, Malala not only explores her own story of adjusting to a new life while longing for home, but she also shares the personal stories of some of the incredible girls she has met on her various journeys.

  •  'Newspaper English', a book on lucid journalistic writing was released by Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan, vice chairman of University Grants Commission.
  • The book has been authored by Kiran Thakur.

The First Book about a Stock Market

  • The first book known to be written about a stock exchange went on sale at Sotheby's Rare Books and Manuscripts online auction, carrying an estimate of $200,000 to $300,000.
  • Written by Joseph Penso de la Vega in 1688, the Confusion of Confusions is a primer for the Amsterdam stock exchange, which was set up by the Dutch East India Company in 1602.
  • The book remained relatively obscure until the late 19th century, when a series of economists, first German, then Dutch, began to draw on the text; the first translation appeared in English in 1959. Today a copy is available in hardcover for less than $30.
