IIM-Bangalore only Indian Institute in Top 50 Category: QS Global Executive MBA Rankings

  • The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore was the only Indian institute to have featured in the top 50 in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Global Executive MBA Rankings released in June 2022. The institute got the 46th spot on the global list with an overall score of 61.6.
  • IIM Bangalore was followed by the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad which was slated in the 111-120 group with an overall score of 49.2. Additionally, IIM Kozhikode scored 28 points and was grouped in the 171+ category.
  • This year, ISB Hyderabad has fallen nearly 10 ranks as it had ranked 92nd last year and 93rd before that. Additionally, IIM Kozhikode seems to have slipped nearly 20 places in the rankings, as compared to last year.

IIT-Hyderabad to Offer MTech in Heritage Science and Technology

  • Starting from August 2022, IIT Hyderabad (IIT-H) will offer MTech in Heritage Science and Technology with three specialisations. The institute inaugurated a new Department of Heritage Science and Technology (HST). The department was inaugurated by Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, best known as the father of India's PARAM series supercomputers.
  • The online Master's Program in Heritage Science and Technology will be offered in three specialisations that target distinct heritage industries – Technology for Yoga, Indic Language Processing, and Conservation and Reconstruction. The course will be in online mode for 2 years, where the second year is exclusively earmarked for a thesis project with a focus on either research or product development.

WHO Considers Declaring Monkeypox a Global Health Emergency

  • As the World Health Organisation convenes its emergency committee to consider if the spiraling outbreak of monkeypox warrants being declared a global emergency, some experts say WHO's decision to act only after the disease spilled into the West could entrench the grotesque inequities that arose between rich and poor countries during the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Declaring monkeypox to be a global emergency would mean the UN health agency considers the outbreak to be an extraordinary event and that the disease is at risk of spreading across even more borders. It would also give monkeypox the same distinction as the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing effort to eradicate polio.

Gender Responsive Governance: NCW Launches Workshop to Train Women MLAs

  • The National Commission for Women (NCW) organised a workshop on Gender Responsive Governance for elected women representatives (MLAs) under 'She Is A Changemaker' project, a pan-India capacity-building programme of the Commission for improving leadership skills of women representatives at all levels.
  • The three-day workshop was organised in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) and the National Gender and Child centre of LBSNAA from June 22 to 24, 2022.
  • During the workshop, the women MLAs were trained on gender-responsive governance in different sessions such as 'Effective Leadership', 'Inclusive Governance', 'Overview on Gender-Based Violence with a Special Focus on Trafficking of Women and Adolescents', 'Gender Sensitive and Inclusive Communication', 'Emotional Intelligence', etc.
  • The workshop was attended by participants from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

CUET UG Exam 2022 Dates Announced

  • The Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET UG 2022) exam dates were announced. The CUET UG 2022 exam will be held on July 15, July 16, July 19, July 20, August 4, August 5, August 6, August 7, August 8, and August 10. The CUET UG 2022 will be conducted in 554 cities across India and 13 cities outside India. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will also reopen the CUET 2022 UG application window. Candidates can apply online for CUET UG and make corrections to the application form between June 23 and June 24.
  • Candidates can appear for CUET in any of the 13 mediums being offered, select any combination out of 33 languages and 27 unique subjects.

  • Edtech company Unacademy appointed Navneet Sharma as its chief business officer – new initiatives.
  • Joining the Unacademy team he will be charting the growth strategy, business plan, and sales development frameworks for the new avenues that the Test Prep business is exploring, in order to achieve the larger vision and goals of the brand.
  • As a part of his new mandate, Sharma will be responsible for formulating new avenues of growth for the digital and hybrid models for the test prep business.
