MCD Drafts 'Vision@2047' to Improve Education with Infra Upgrade, Tech

  • The MCD prepared a roadmap to improve the quality of primary education in Delhi with a 'vision document' focussing on the development of sports infrastructure, safety and hygiene in schools, and educating students about gender equality.
  • Under 'Vision@2047', the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will focus on various initiatives to bolster its mechanism to impart primary education into a result-oriented system.
  • In this direction, the civic body is implementing the National Education Policy 2020 in all its schools with all provisions.
  • Under the 'Vision@2047', the MCD would focus on educating students about gender equality at the early childhood stage. With this objective, the MCD is planning to transform its double-shift schools into a single-shift schools, so as to allow the mingling of boys and girls from an early age, which is mandatory for inculcating the necessary values like respecting the opposite gender.

IIT Madras Launches Minor Stream in 'Personal and Professional Development' for BTech Students

  • Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) launched a minor stream in 'Personal and Professional Development'. An undergraduate student needs to take a basket of courses to fulfil the requirement of minoring in the stream. The courses/programmes in this stream are aimed to aid students in their personal and professional development.
  • The minor stream is open to all the students of BTech and dual degree programmes while the courses offered under this programme are available as elective courses to all students of IIT-Madras irrespective of the programme they are in.
  • Over 15 courses are on offer including self-awareness; happiness habits and success; FLOW for high performance, systems thinking and discovering creativity.

IIT Guwahati Hosts Youth 20 Inception Meet 2023

  • Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Guwahati hosted the first ever Youth 20 Inception Meet 2023. The meeting was attended by 150 youth delegates from G20 countries including Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur.
  • The 3 days program was a platform where all connected with the youths and consulted their ideas for a sustainable and progressive future.

NCERT Selects ETS for Establishing India's First National Assessment Regulator

  • Educational Testing Service (ETS), the world's largest educational assessment organisation, announced that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) selected ETS to support the set-up of India's first national assessment regulator, PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development).
  • The PARAKH initiative will set norms, standards and guidelines for student assessment and evaluation for all recognized school boards in India. This will put a heightened focus on building quality assessments to better measure and increase knowledge and skill acquisition across India.

IIT Ropar Creates Unique Green Technology

  • IIT Ropar created an innovative green technology called an air nano bubble that can cut the amount of water used in the textile industry by up to 90%.
  • As per Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, textile is one of the most water-intensive industries and there is an escalating need to address the problem of managing water usage in the textile industry associated with contamination of water.
  • According to experimental findings, the air nano bubble dispersed in water can cut water use and chemical dosage by 90-95 percent, saving 90 percent of energy usage in the process.

This Indian-American Girl is in 'World's Brightest' Students List

  • Indian-American schoolgirl Natasha Perianayagam was named in the "world's brightest" students list for the second consecutive year by the US-based Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth, based on the results of above-grade-level tests of over 15,000 students across 76 countries.
  • Perianayagam is a student at Florence M Gaudineer Middle School, in New Jersey.
  • She also took the Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth (CTY) test in Spring 2021, when she was a Grade 5 student.

Programme to Scale Up Diagnostics Space for Infectious Diseases Launched

  • The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) launched a programme to boost India's preparedness for current and future pandemics and scale up diagnostics space for infectious diseases.
  • The launch of the National Diagnostics Catapult (C-CAMP InDx 2.0) took place in the presence of Parvinder Maini, scientific secretary at the office of the principal scientific adviser to the government.
  • The programme is anchored by C-CAMP with support from the Bangalore Life Sciences Cluster (BLiSc) and funding from the Rockefeller Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and FIND, a global alliance for diagnostics.
  • The programme aims to boost India's preparedness for current and future pandemics and scale up diagnostics space for infectious diseases including but not limited to COVID-19.
  • Further, C-CAMP InDx 2.0 is envisioned to set a global model for capacity building in the diagnostics domain in lower- and middle-income countries to meet the twin goals of affordability and accessibility in the United Nations vision for universal health coverage.

IIM Kozhikode, University of Western Australia Jointly Launch Global MBA Programme

  • The University of Western Australia along with the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode launched a two-year online global MBA programme.
  • The candidates who successfully complete their first year will receive a certificate in Advanced Business Management from IIM Kozhikode, followed by a MBA degree from University of Western Australia on completion of the second year of the programme. The curriculum will have 12 modules, including over 30 live online sessions by faculty and industry experts. There will be a mix of pre-recorded lectures from faculties of both institutes.
  • This programme is ideal for mid-to-senior level working professionals. The first year of the programme includes modules delivered by IIM Kozhikode, as part of the professional certificate programme in Advanced Business Management Programme. The second year includes modules on new–age courses including Business Strategy, Leading Change and Transformation and Leadership in Organization, delivered by the University of Western Australia.

Two Free Seats for Orphans in DU UG and PG Courses from Next Year

  • From the upcoming academic year, Delhi University will grant orphans two seats each under the supernumerary quota in all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Such students, when admitted, will be exempted from payment of any kind of fees whatsoever which will include exemption from payment of their hostel fees, examination fees and other such mandatory fees as well.
  • The University Welfare Fund or College Students' Welfare Fund, depending on the situation, would cover the costs associated with the students' entrance and continuation of their studies.

IIT Madras Collaborates with Cargill to Provide Scholarships for BS Degree

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras students will now be able to get a full scholarship to pursue BS in Data Science Applications. The scholarship was launched in partnership with Cargill, a US-global food and agriculture corporation.
  • The Cargill Scholarship will allow approximately 100 students from low-income families to pursue their ambition of attending IIT Madras.
  • The IIT Madras BS Degree in Data Science and Applications is a one-of-a-kind programme that provides students with several entrance and exit choices, allowing them to exit with a certificate, diploma, or degree. This programme includes four levels, and a student must successfully finish all four levels to get the BS Degree in Data Science and Applications degree.
