PM Modi to Receive Global Energy and Environment Leadership Award

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive the CERAWeek Global Energy and Environment Leadership Award during an annual international energy conference next week.
  • The Prime Minister will also deliver the keynote address at the CERAWeek Conference-2021, which will be held virtually from March 1 to 5.
    • Prominent speakers at the conference include US special presidential envoy for climate John Kerry, Co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and founder of Breakthrough Energy Bill Gates and president and CEO, Saudi Aramco, Amin Nasser.
    • The annual international conference is a gathering of energy industry leaders, experts, government officials and policymakers, leaders from the technology, financial and industrial communities, and energy technology innovators.

  • Anjali Bharadwaj, an Indian social activist working on issues of transparency and accountability, is one of the 12 "courageous" individuals named by the Biden administration for the newly-instituted International Anti-Corruption Champions Award.
  • Bharadwaj has served as an active member of the Right to Information Movement in India for over two decades.
  • Anjali Bharadwaj is the founder of Satark Nagrik Sangathan, a citizens' group with a mandate to promote transparency in government.
  • She is also a convener of the National Campaign for Peoples' Right to Information.

Union Bank of India Wins World HRD Congress Awards

  • Union Bank of India was awarded "Best Service Provider" in Human Resources and also the best institution for "Excellence in Learning & Development" at the 29th Global HRD Congress awards function held at Mumbai in February 2021.
  • Kalyan Kumar, Chief General Manager, HR was named as "Chief Human Resources Officer of the Year". Vinayak V Tembhurane, General Manager, HR, received the coveted award on his behalf.
  • Global HRD Congress Awards are given to institutions annually for the best HR practices under different categories. The Eminent jury which consists of best in industry will select the organizations taking into account their remarkable achievements in HR.

Mongabay Founder Wins Environmental Journalism Award

  • Mongabay founder and CEO Rhett A. Butler has been awarded a 2020 SEAL Environmental Journalism Award in recognition of his coverage of environmental issues for the website. The honor is presented by the SEAL (Sustainability, Environmental Achievement & Leadership) Awards, an environmental advocacy organization.
  • His fellow winners – at outlets ranging from The Guardian to The New York Times and The Washington Post – were selected based on each journalist's work, a data-driven analysis of the impact and reach of their articles, and the bringing of fresh perspectives and social relevance to environmental issues, the organizers said. Butler has been publishing on Mongabay since he founded it in 1999.
  • "I'm humbled to receive a 2020 SEAL Journalism Award," Rhett said. "I accept this honor on behalf of the Mongabay team and our network of contributors, who work tirelessly to deliver news and inspiration from nature's frontline."
