Carnatic Vocalist Aruna Sairam with Chevalier Award

Carnatic vocalist, composer, collaborator, humanitarian and speaker Aruna Sairam was honoured with the French government's highest honour- Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres award.
Its previous recipients from India have included Kamal Hassan, Soumitra Chatterjee and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Aruna Sairam was selected for this award not just for her singing prowess, but also for her contribution towards development of the Indo-France relationship.

Kerala Govt. Selects M. T. Vasudevan Nair for First 'Kerala Jyothi' Award

Malayalam literary stalwart and Jnanpith laureate M. T. Vasudevan Nair was selected for the first 'Kerala Jyothi' award instituted by the state government on the lines of the Padma awards to honour individuals who have made priceless contributions to the society.
Malayalam megastar Mammootty, Delhi-based Malayalam playwright Omcheri N N Pillai and former civil servant and social worker T Madhava Menon were selected for the first 'Kerala Prabha' awards.
Last year, the Kerala government had decided to institute the highest state-level awards, on the model of Padma awards.
It was decided to institute awards in three categories — 'Kerala Jyothi', 'Kerala Prabha' and 'Kerala Sree'.

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Confers 'Friends of Liberation War' Honour on Edward M. Kennedy

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina conferred the prestigious 'Friends of Liberation War' honour on former US Senator Edward M. Kennedy posthumously in Dhaka for his contribution to the liberation of Bangladesh. The honour was handed over to his son Edward M. Ted Kennedy Junior.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recalled the great contribution of Edward Kennedy Senior with gratitude. She said that Kennedy Senior took a bold stand against the genocide committed by Pakistan on innocent Bengali people despite the US government's role during the 1971 liberation war.

Ex-ISRO Chief K. Sivan among 67 to get Rajyotsava Award

Former ISRO Chairman K. Sivan, actors Dattanna, Avinash and Sihi Kahi Chandru were among 67 personalities who wwere awarded Rajyotsava Award this year, the Karnataka government said.
Following the tradition of awarding Rajyotsava Award every year to eminent persons who have rendered significant service in various fields, the government announcing the list of winners said, it has decided to honour the dignitaries as the state celebrated 67th Kannada Rajyotsava (state formation day) this year on November 1.

President Droupadi Murmu Presents Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the President's Bodyguard

The President of India Droupadi Murmu presented the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the President's Bodyguard at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The President appreciated PBG for their excellent military traditions, professionalism and discipline in all their tasks.
President Murmu expressed confidence that PBG will strive with dedication, discipline and valour, to maintain the highest traditions of Rashtrapati Bhavan and be an ideal role model for other Regiments of the Indian Army.
The President's Bodyguard is the oldest regiment in the Indian Army, having been raised as the Governor-General's Bodyguard (later the Viceroy's Bodyguard) in 1773. As the President of India's own Guard, it has the unique distinction of being the only military unit of the Indian Army that is privileged to carry the President's Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner. This distinction was conferred on the President's Bodyguard in 1923 by the then Viceroy, Lord Reading, on the occasion of the Bodyguard completing 150 years of service. Each succeeding Viceroy, thereafter, presented the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the Bodyguard.

RRR Wins Best International Film Award at 50th Saturn Awards

S.S. Rajamouli directorial RRR won the Best International Film award at the 50th Saturn Awards held in Los Angeles. It was nominated in multiple categories, including Best International Film, Best Action Adventure and Best Director.
Saturn Awards are presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, awarding films in science fiction, fantasy, horror, and other genres belonging to genre fiction in films, TV, as well as streaming. RRR beat titles like Downton Abbey: A New Era, Eiffel, I'm Your Man, Riders of Justice, and Silent Night to take home the award for the best international film at the 2022 awards.
