Reigning marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum and his coach Gervais Hakizimana were killed in a road accident in the Rift Valley town of Eldoret in Kenya.
Kelvin had set the world record at the Chicago Marathon in October 2023 with a time of 2 hours and 35 seconds and surpassed the mark of 2:01:09 run by compatriot Eliud Kipchoge in Berlin in 2022.
Kiptum, a product of the high altitude region of Kenya which has produced most of the country's world renowned distance runners, started his international career on the half-marathon circuit in 2019.

Also, a teacher, she was a life peer as Baroness Flather of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire.

Pinera, who was 74 years old, served as Chile's President from 2010 to 2014 and again in 2018-2022.
Veteran Journalist and Sahitya Akademi Winner Farooq Nazki Dies
Veteran broadcaster, poet and Sahitya Akademi winner Mir Mohammad Farooq Nazki died. He was 83.
Nazki held several important positions in All India Radio Kashmir and Doordarshan.
In 1995, Nazki was awarded the Sahitya Academi award in Kashmiri for his poetry book 'Naar Hyutun Kanzal Wanas' (Fire in the eyelashes).
Nazki was also the media advisor to two Chief Ministers — Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.

Namibian President Hage Geingob Passes Away
Namibia's President Hage Geingob passed away at the gae of 82, weeks after he was diagnosed with cancer.
Geingob played a central role in what has become one of Africa's most stable democracies after returning from a long exile in Botswana and the United States as an anti-apartheid activist.
He was the country's third President since it gained independence in 1990 following more than a century of German and then apartheid South African rule.
He had been president since 2015 and was set to finish his second and final term in office this year (2024).
