Renowned Hindustani Classical Vocalist Pandit Prabhakar Karekar Passes Away

Renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Prabhakar Karekar passed away at the age of 80.
Born in Goa, Karekar was widely respected for his contributions to Hindustani classical music and was known for devotional renditions like Bolava Vithal Pahava Vithal and Vakratund Mahakay. He trained under legendary gurus and received several prestigious awards, including the Tansen Samman, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and Gomant Vibhushan Award.
His death was condoled by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who praised his role in preserving and expanding classical music in Goa.

Sam Nujoma, First President of Namibia, Dies

The first President of independent Namibia, Sam Nujoma, died at the age of 95 in the capital Windhoek.
Nujoma led the long fight for independence from South Africa in 1990 after helping found Namibia's liberation movement known as the South West Africa People's Organisation (Swapo) in the 1960s.
After independence, Nujoma became President in 1990 and led the country until 2005.

South Africa's Tshego Gaelae Becomes First Black Woman to Win Mrs. World

South Africa's Tshego Gaelae was crowned Mrs. World 2025, becoming the first black woman to win the title in the competition's 40-year history.
The 33-year-old model from Soweto was crowned in Las Vegas, beating contenders from Sri Lanka and Thailand.
This victory follows in the footsteps of Candice Abrahams, who became the first South African to claim the global crown in 2016. As Mrs. World 2025, Gaelae will embark on a global tour, using her platform to make a positive impact on the lives of women around the world.

Former German President Horst Kohler dies

Horst Kohler, who became Germany's President after being a financial engineer behind the reunification of Germany and the creation several decades later of the euro currency, died in Berlin. He was 81.
Despite having served as Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kohler was little known politically in Germany before becoming the country's President in 2004. Yet, he rose to popularity after taking office, serving much of his nearly six years alongside Chancellor Angela Merkel.
In 2010, a year into his second term, Kohler resigned abruptly amid a barrage of criticism over remarks he made about German soldiers serving in Afghanistan and on peacekeeping missions.
It was the first time in four decades that a German President had quit the post.
