Veteran Filmmaker K. Viswanath Passes Away

Dadasaheb Phalke awardee and renowned filmmaker Kasinadhuni Viswanath died. He was 92.
Popularly known as 'Kalatapasvi', Viswanath was born in February 1930 in Andhra Pradesh.
A prominent name, not just in Telugu cinema but also in Tamil and Hindi films, he became the 48th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema. He was conferred the award for 2016.
Viswanath started his journey in the film industry as a sound artiste.
Besides Dadasaheb Phalke Award, he was also felicitated with Padma Shri in 1992, five National Awards, 20 Nandi Awards (given by the Andhra Pradesh government) and 10 Filmfare trophies, including the Lifetime Achievement award.

Former Union Law Minister and Eminent Jurist Shanti Bhushan Passes Away

Former Union Law Minister and eminent jurist Shanti Bhushan died at his home in Delhi. He was 97.
Bhushan, who was also a senior advocate, served as the Law Minister from 1977 to 1979 in the Morarji Desai cabinet.

Noted writer K. V. Tirumalesh Passes Away

Noted Kannada writer K.V. Tirumalesh passed away in Hyderabad. He was 82. He is regarded as one of the most versatile writers across genres and a man with eclectic interests.
Though primarily recognised as a poet and honoured with the Sahitya Akademi award for his innovative work Akshaya Kavya — "a long narrative sans story or aim" as he described it — he wrote extensively across genres, including plays, short stories, novels, translations and criticism.
Born in 1940 in Karadka village, Kasaragod district (presently in Kerala), he was a linguist by training and taught at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad. He also taught at Iowa University, United States of America, and in Yemen for short periods of time.

Puma India Ropes Harmanpreet Singh as Brand Ambassador

Sports brand Puma India announced roping in women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur as its latest brand ambassador. As part of the partnership terms, Harmanpreet will endorse the brand's footwear, apparel and accessories throughout the year.
With this, Harmanpreet joins PUMA's roster of brand ambassadors that include Virat Kohli, football stars Neymar Jr and Sunil Chhetri, boxer MC Mary Kom, cricketer Harleen Deol and Para-Shooter Avani Lekhara.
The batter from Punjab has the record of the fourth fastest women's T20I hundred in the world to her name and she is also India's only centurion in the women's T20I.

Mining PSU NMDC Ropes Nikhat Zareen as its Brand Ambassador

Hyderbad-based iron ore producer NMDC signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with World Boxing Champion and gold medal winner of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Zareen to represent NMDC as its brand ambassador.
As per Deb, CMD, NMDC, Zareen's personality is synonymous with NMDC's brand values of reliability and sturdiness and this association will add to the overall brand personality of both stakeholders.

Odisha Minister Naba Kishore Dies

Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das died after battling bullet injuries for several hours after being shot at by a policeman.
Das was shot in the chest at Brajrajnagar town around 1 pm when he was on his way to attend a programme in Jharsuguda district.
The minister, a strongman in the mining hub of Jharsuguda, had switched over to the BJD from the Congress ahead of 2019 elections. He is known to have business interests in coal mining, transportation and hospitality sectors.

Celebrated Architect BV Doshi Dies: "Pole Star in World of Architecture"

Well-known architect and Padma Bhushan recipient Balkrishna Doshi, who worked with legends like Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn, died at 95 at his home.
He worked with Louis Kahn as an associate to build the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and many other acclaimed projects.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel called Doshi the Pole Star in the world of architecture.
Some of Doshi's projects include the Institute of Indology, CEPT University and Kanoria Centre for Arts in Ahmedabad, the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, and Aranya Low Cost Housing, a township for low- to middle-income families, in Indore which won the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1995.
Doshi founded his own practice, Vastushilpa, in Ahmedabad in 1956.
In 2018, he received the Pritzker Architecture Prize, considered one of the most prestigious prizes in the field of architecture, becoming the first Indian architect to receive the honour.
He was received the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honour in India, in 2020.
In 2022, Doshi received the 'Royal Gold Medal' from the Royal Institute of British Architects, which described his work as combining "pioneering modernism with vernacular, informed by a deep appreciation of the traditions of India's architecture, climate, local culture and craft".
