Assam Announces OBC Status for Trans Community and Reservations for Anganwadi Workers

  • In a policy push aimed at promoting social inclusion and grassroots empowerment, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that the transgender community in Assam will now be granted OBC (Other Backward Class) status. In a parallel move, he also declared 50% reservation in supervisor-level positions under the Women and Child Development Department (WCD) for Anganwadi workers, boosting their career progression within the government framework.
  • The provision of OBC status will open doors for trans individuals in education, employment, and government welfare schemes, while the reservation for Anganwadi workers in supervisory posts under the ICDS scheme recognizes and institutionalises their long-standing contributions.

PM Modi Chairs 47th Meeting of PMML Society, Unveils Vision for 'Museum Map of India'

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 47th Annual General Meeting of the Prime Ministers Museum and Library (PMML) Society at Teen Murti Bhawan, New Delhi. Emphasising the vital role of museums in connecting people with history, the Prime Minister outlined a comprehensive vision for the future of India's museum landscape.
  • The Prime Minister proposed the creation of a "Museum Map of India," a visionary initiative aimed at offering a unified cultural and informational platform showcasing museums across the country.

India to Conduct First Comprehensive Household Income Survey in 2026

  • In a step to bridge critical data gaps in the Indian economy, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) announced that the National Sample Survey (NSS) will undertake its first full-fledged Household Income Survey in 2026. The initiative aims to generate detailed insights into income distribution and assess the impact of structural changes in the Indian economy over the last 75 years.
  • Since its inception in 1950, the NSS has built a global reputation for its wide-ranging and methodically rigorous household surveys, conducted on an annual and quarterly basis.

MoPR Partners with IIM Ahmedabad to Train Panchayats in Generating Own Source Revenue

  • The Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, launched a comprehensive Training of Trainers (ToT) programme aimed at strengthening the financial autonomy of Panchayats. The inaugurated at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi, focuses on enhancing the capacity of Panchayats to generate their Own Source Revenue (OSR). This initiative is being implemented under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad.

India Launches City Accelerator Programme to Boost Rooftop Solar Adoption in Cities

  • Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), launched the City Accelerator Program during the National Conference on Skill Development for Renewable Energy Workforce held at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan, New Delhi. The program is being implemented in collaboration with Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF).
  • The City Accelerator Program is a key initiative under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY), the world's largest domestic rooftop solar (RTS) scheme, and aims to drive faster adoption of RTS across Indian cities. The program is designed to provide:
  • Technical assistance to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and DISCOMs
  • Capacity building and institutional strengthening
  • Support in designing enabling city-level policy and regulatory frameworks

The 6th All India Conference of GRP Chiefs Concludes

  • The 6th All India Conference of Government Railway Police Chiefs, organised under the aegis of the Railway Protection Force concluded successfully at Vigyan Bhawan,New Delhi. The high-level conference, presided over by Director General, RPF, Manoj Yadava, witnessed the participation of DGPs, ADGPs, and senior officers from the GRP of various states and union territories, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Railways.
  • The central theme of the conference revolved around enhancing intelligence-sharing, formulating joint operational strategies and fine-tuning inter-agency coordination to counter the evolving modus operandi of criminal elements exploiting the vast railway network.

  • To celebrate over a decade of transformative governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, in collaboration with MyGov, launched a nationwide creative campaign titled 'Badalta Bharat Mera Anubhav.' TTDF Symposium 2025 Concludes Successfully

  • The Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) Symposium 2025, was successfully organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Ministry of Communications from June 19 to 21, 2025 at the IIT Madras Research Park, Chennai. The three-day event provided a platform for fund beneficiaries to come together, explore synergies, and identify collaborative pathways to advance their R&D efforts—ensuring not only successful outcomes but also broader benefits for the entire innovation ecosystem.

DGR Hosts Job Fair Exclusively for Armed Forces Officers

  • Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR), Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW), Ministry of Defence (MoD) organised a Job Fair exclusively for Armed Forces Officers, in New Delhi. More than 500 retired/retiring officers from Tri-Services registered online seeking employment and further participating in the event. Of the total 41 registered companies, 25 physically offered 100 plus job vacancies in the fair. The shortlisted officers will be interviewed/screened and subsequently employed as Mid to Senior rank/level Managers, Administrators, Strategic Planners and Project Directors.

Nirmala Sitharaman Releases Fifth Edition of National Time Release Study (NTRS)

  • Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman released fifth edition of National Time Release Study (NTRS), during the CBIC Conclave held in New Delhi.
  • The Time Release Study (TRS) is a performance measurement tool that provides a quantitative assessment of the time taken for cargo release, helping to evaluate the efficiency of the clearance process. Since 2019, TRS has been conducted at 15 major locations, including seaports, Air Cargo Complexes (ACCs), Inland Container Depots (ICDs), and Integrated Check Posts (ICPs).
  • The fifth edition also adopted advanced methodologies to enable stage-wise and process-specific evaluations. This edition marked another milestone by widening its geographical coverage to three additional ports: Kochi Seaport, Garhi Harsaru ICD, and Jaigaon LCS.

ECI's New SOP Ensures EPIC Delivery within 15 Days

  • In a move aimed at enhancing voter convenience and improving the efficiency of electoral services, the Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to deliver Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) within 15 days of any update in the electoral rolls. This fast-track delivery system reflects ECI's ongoing digital transformation under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

MoSPI Organises AI Literacy Workshop

  • The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, organised an AI Literacy Workshop in New Delhi. The Workshop brought together various stakeholders including Voluntary Organisations working in the field of Artificial Intelligence (Wadhwani AI), Multilateral Organisation (World Bank) and officers from MoSPI.
  • The objective of the Workshop was to deliberate upon the transformative potential of AI in official statistics and public sector decision-making.

Eight Elected to Rajya Sabha Unopposed

  • Eight candidates, two from Assam and six from Tamil Nadu, were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha, even as the biennial elections to the eight seats were slated for June 19. With the opposition parties not filing any candidate for the two Rajya Sabha seats in the North-eastern state, NDA candidates -- Kanad Purkayastha and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya -- won the two seats. The ruling BJP had nominated Purkayastha for one of the seats, while its alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) nominated Baishya.
