India Extends USD 40 mn Assistance to Maldives for Bolstering Sports Infra

  • External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that India extended a concessional $ 40 million Line of Credit for developing sporting infrastructure in the Maldives.
  • This is part of New Delhi's efforts to bring PM Narendra Modi's flagship projects such as "Fit India" and "Khelo India" into the ambit of the 'Neighbourhood First.

The First G20 Health Working Group Meeting Begins in Thiruvananthapuram

  • The three-day meeting of the first Health Working Group under India's G20 presidency began in Thiruvananthapuram. Union Minister of State for Health, Bharti Praveen Pawar and Union Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muralidharan addressed the meeting. Ms. Pawar making the inaugural address said that G-20 countries are committed to ensure Universal health care.

EC Announces Assembly Poll Schedule for Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura

  • The Election Commission announced the schedule for Assembly elections to the three states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland. All the constituencies of Tripura will vote in a single phase on February 16. Meghalaya and Nagaland will vote on February 27. Votes will be counted in all the three states on March 2.
  • The tenures of the three assemblies, with 60 seats each, end on March 12, 15 and 22, respectively. Last week, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel had visited the three North-eastern states to review the poll preparations. The poll schedule of the three states were chalked out keeping in mind Board examinations and the movement of security forces.

Ranchi Meteorological Centre Adjudged Best in the Country

  • The Ranchi Meteorological Centre was adjudged the best among such facilities across the states.
  • The performance of the Ranchi centre in disseminating weather-related information to its stakeholders in time with a higher accuracy rate was appreciated by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
  • The incharge of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, Abhishek Anand, received the award from Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences, at a programme to commemorate the 148th foundation day of IMD in New Delhi.

Fresh Powers Delegated to Delhi Lt-Governor

  • President Droupadi Murmu delegated fresh powers to the Lt-Governors of Delhi, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Chandigarh, Puducherry and Lakshadweep under the Industrial Relations Code, 2020, and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020.
  • Under the Industrial Relations Code, 2020, the government can exempt any new industrial establishment or class of establishments from the provisions of the Code in public interest. The second notification talks about delegation of powers under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, to the administrator and L-G of these six UTs. The notifications came amid the tussle between the Delhi Government and Lt-Governor V.K. Saxena over control on bureaucracy.

Hyderabad Selected to Host WEF Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution

  • The World Economic Forum (WEF) announced the establishment of a Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR Telangana) in Hyderabad. It will focus on healthcare and life sciences, with the goal of accelerating product development and delivery innovation within the Indian healthcare system.
  • The C4IR Telangana will be a collaboration between the WEF and the government of Telangana, with the support of the private sector.
  • The initiative will be led by the Telangana Life Sciences Foundation, and will be an autonomous non-profit organization.
  • The WEF President, Børge Brende, stated that India has a unique opportunity to lead healthcare and life sciences in South Asia, and that the C4IR Telangana will play a key role in driving stakeholder engagement and building bridges between the public sector and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
  • The new Centre will be an autonomous non-profit organization and will be the 18th Centre in WEF's Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) network.

J. P. Nadda's Tenure as BJP President Extended Till June 2024

  • BJP President J.P. Nadda's tenure, set to end this month, was extended till June 2024 in view of the upcoming Assembly elections this year and the Lok Sabha elections next year.

Govt. to Ogranise First Global Tourism Summit in April as Part of G-20

  • The Centre will organise the country's first Global Tourism Summit in April as part of India's G-20 presidency, wherein all the member countries will participate.
  • CII is the industry partner for the event to be held on April 10-12, in New Delhi.
  • According to Arun Srivastava, Deputy Director General, Publicity, Ministry of Tourism, the summit is being organised to showcase various opportunities for investment and trade in the sector, especially in the hospitality sector. This will allow global visitors to explore Indian tourism products and services that will provide an opportunity to the local players to cater to the global demand and compete in this sector.

'Success Event of Womaniya Initiative Commemorated in New Delhi

  • The success of "Womaniya on Government eMarketplace" was commemorated in New Delhi. The event was held by Government eMarketplace (GeM) in partnership with the self-employed women's association, Bharat (SEWA Bharat), and attended by women entrepreneurs and participants from stakeholders' organizations and associations.
  • The initiative "Womaniya on GeM" is to empower women entrepreneurs and women self-help groups (WSHGs) to sell their products directly to various government ministries, departments, and institutions. The initiative aims to develop women entrepreneurship on the margins of society to achieve gender-inclusive economic growth.
