Ladakh Groups Protest for Statehood

Ladakh residents, under the banner of the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), protested for statehood at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Their other demands included constitutional safeguard for land and jobs (6th Schedule), formation of a public service commission and creation of two parliamentary constituencies for Leh and Kargil.

Seventh Operation Dost Flight for Earthquake-hit Syria and Turkey

The seventh Operation Dost flight departed for earthquake-hit Syria and Turkey. The Indian Air Force C17 carried relief material, medical aid, emergency and critical care medicines, medical equipment and consumables took off from Hindon Airbase in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the flight carried more than 35 tons of relief material, of which over 23 tons headed for relief efforts in Syria, and around 12 tons to Turkey.
On February 6, 2023, a devastating earthquake happened in Turkey and Syria.
The death toll across Turkey and Syria following earthquake reached 28,192.

Parliament Goes into Month-long Recess

The first part of the budget session of Rajya Sabha was adjourned till March 13 after continued disruptions by Opposition MPs who kept up their demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into allegations against the Adani Group.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, who spoke about deliberate obstruction of proceedings, adjourned the House for the day after repeated appeals to bring order went unheeded and Opposition MPs raised slogans in support of their demand for a JPC and also revocation of the suspension of Congress MP Rajani Patil.

Annual Meeting of Members of the River Cities Alliance 'DHARA' Held in Pune

The annual meeting of the members of the River Cities Alliance (RCA) under the programme Driving Holistic Action for Urban Rivers (DHARA) organised the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) in association with National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) in Pune.
The Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat delivered the keynote address on the inaugural day, while the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore delivered the valedictory address on day two.
DHARA 2023 provided a platform for senior officials including commissioners, Addl commissioners, chief engineers and senior planners of the 95-member river cities in India to co-learn and discussed solutions for managing local water bodies.
The event has strong synergies with the Urban20 (U20) initiative under the ambit of India's G20 Presidency. One of the thrust areas of U20 is to promulgate urban water security.

Tripura Assembly Polls: Border with Bangladesh, Inter-state Boundaries to be Sealed

In a bid to ensure free and fair assembly elections in Tripura, the international border with Bangladesh and inter-state boundaries were sealed, following instruction from the Election Commission. Elections to the 60-member assembly of the north-eastern state will be held on February 16.
The BSF, which has been maintaining strict vigil along the India-Bangladesh border, was asked to seal the boundary for free and fair elections.

Droupadi Murmu Inaugurates 2nd Indian Rice Congress in Cuttack

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 2nd Indian Rice Congress at ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said, that rice is the cornerstone of food security in India and also a key factor for our economy.
The ARRW located at ICAR-NRRI organised the congress. ARRW is the Association of Rice Research Workers. It was founded in 1961.
Addressing the rice production in India, the President said that though India is the leading consumer and exporter of rice today, the situation was different when the nation became free. In those days, we were dependent on imports to meet our food requirements.
President Droupadi Murmu showed her delight to note that ICAR-NRRI developed India's first high protein rice, called CR Dhan 310 and NRRI has also released a high-zinc rice variety, called CR Dhan 315.

President Murmu Appoints New Governors

President of India Droupadi Murmu appointed governors in 12 states and a Union Territory while accepting the resignation of two — Maharashtra's Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Ladakh's Radha Krishnan Mathur. Of the 13, Meghalaya and Nagaland are election-bound states.
Murmu appointed Lieutenant General Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik (retired) as Governor of Arunachal Pradesh; Lakshman Prasad Acharya as Governor of Sikkim; C. P. Radhakrishnan as Governor of Jharkhand; Shiv Pratap Shukla as Governor of Himachal Pradesh; Gulab Chand Kataria as Governor of Assam; and Justice (retired) S. Abdul Nazeer as Governor of Andhra Pradesh.
Apart from making fresh appointments, Murmu reshuffled seven governors. Andhra Pradesh governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan was appointed as Governor of Chhattisgarh; Chhattisgarh governor Sushri Anusuiya Uikye was shifted as Governor of Manipur; Manipur governor La Ganesan was appointed as Governor of Nagaland; Bihar governor Phagu Chauhan became Governor of Meghalaya; Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar was shifted as Governor of Bihar, Jharkhand governor Ramesh Bais was appointed as Governor of Maharashtra; and Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brigadier B. D. Mishra (retired) was appointed as L-G of Ladakh.

First National Lok Adalat of 2023 Held in J&K

The J&K Legal Services Authority organised first National Lok Adalat of the calendar year 2023 throughout the Union Territory. During the day-long National Lok Adalat, out of a total number of 88,723 cases taken up by 142 Benches at various courts across the UT, 75,250 Cases were disposed off and an amount of Rs. 45,05,14,697/- was awarded as compensation/settlement amount in Motor Accident Claims, civil, criminal, labour disputes, Electricity and Water Bills cases, Land Acquisition, Family matters, cheque dishonour and Bank Recovery cases. Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Amit Gupta said that this was the first National Lok Adalat and in all four Lok Adalats will be organized during the year. The second National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on May 13, 2023.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Inaugurates National Philatelic Exhibition- AMRITPEX 2023

Union Communications Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the National Philatelic Exhibition – AMRITPEX 2023 – at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. This five-day event, organised by the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications, will showcase India's rich culture, heritage and history through stamps.
For the first time in the country, new technology like virtual reality, augmented reality has been used to showcase the cultural heritage, history, nature, wildlife by narrating the stories of stamps. An Exhibition on the Transformative Journey of India Post will also be inaugurated on this occasion.

Strict Anti-Copying Law Comes into Force in Uttarakhand

The country's strictest Anti-Copying Law came into force in Uttarakhand. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh approved the Uttarakhand Competitive Examination (Measures for Prevention and Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Ordinance 2023.
Raj Bhavan took this step within 24 hours. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami thanked Governor for approving the proposal. Under this Anti-Copying Law, a provision to impose a fine of Rs. 10 crore along with life imprisonment or 10 years in jail for the copycat mafia. Apart from this, there is also a provision to attach the property of the copying mafia.

ICAI Gets New President, Vice President for 2023-24 Term

The Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) elected its new president and vice president for the term 2023-24. Aniket Sunil Talati was elected as the president of ICAI and Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal as vice president.
Aniket Talati is the director of ICAI Accounting Research Foundation (ICAI ARF), Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI (IIIPI) and Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) India and the member of various other committees, boards and directorates of ICAI. He is also the technical advisor to the ICAI's nominee on the PAIB advisory group of IFAC and technical advisor to the IFAC board member and is a board member of SAFA (South Asian Federation of Accountants).
Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal has been a chartered accountant for the last 24 years. He is also a Company Secretary and DISA from ICAI. He was elected to the Central Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India thrice in a row (23rd, 24th and 25th).

First Meeting of G-20 Agriculture Working Group Begins at Indore

The first meeting of the G20 Agriculture Working group, is being be held at Indore, in Madhya Pradesh from 13th to 15 February 13 to 15, 2023. Around one hundred delegates from G20 member countries, guest countries and International Organizations are expected to participate in the meeting.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the event. Millets and its value-added food products along with stalls from animal husbandry and fisheries will be a major attraction.
During the 3 day event brainstorming sessions will be held on various themes including 'Food Security and Nutrition', 'Climate Based Approaches for Sustainable Agriculture', 'Value Chains and Food Systems for Inclusive Agriculture' 'Digitisation for Agricultural Transformation' and many more. During the event, the delegates will also visit Rajwada Palace at Indore and historical Mandu Fort.

Maharashtra Governor Inaugurates Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav 2023 in Mumbai

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari inaugurated the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav- 2023 (RSM) at Azad Maidan, Churchgate in Mumbai. In his speech, the Governor said that Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav conveys the enduring message of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, which signifies that despite the numerous diversities in language and cultural expressions, India is united and one.
The Governor said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is heralding a renaissance of Indian culture. He cited the institution of the International Day of Yoga as an example of the world taking note of our rich culture and tradition.
The Mahotsav is organised by the Ministry every year in different states of India. The nine-day event will go on till 19th February.

Jharkhand Governor Returns another Bill, Seeking Review

Barely a week after Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais returned the state domicile Bill to the state government, asking it to "seriously review" its legality, he returned another Bill – Jharkhand Finance Bill, 2022. This is the third time the Governor has returned the Finance Bill, stating that it should be reviewed.
On the first occasion, the Bill was returned as there were inconsistencies in the translation between the Hindi and English versions. Thereafter, this Bill was sent by the state government for Governor's consent without passing the amended Bill in the Assembly.

PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit-2023.
The Summit was held from February 10-12.
It was the flagship investment summit of the Uttar Pradesh government.
The summit brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academia, think-tanks and leaders from across the world to explore business opportunities and forge partnerships.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present on the occasion.

India to Host Several Tourism-related Activities from Feb-April under Country's SCO Presidency

A number of tourism-related activities will be held in India in the next few months under the country's presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Uzbekistan, in September last year (2022), had handed over the rotating presidency of the eight-member SCO to India in the historic city of Samarkand.
As part of the tourism track activities under India's chairship, the Ministry of Tourism has planned various activities such as SCO Tourism Mart during SATTE (South Asia's Travel and Tourism Exchange) from February 9-11.
An SCO Expert Level Tourism Working Group Meeting and SCO Tourism Minister's Meeting in Varanasi will be held from March 13-17 and SCO Food Festival in Mumbai from April 13-19.

NCAER Report on Farm Machinery Industry in India

The National Council of Applied Economic Research's (NCAER) report on "Making India a Global Power House on Farm Machinery Industry" was released by the Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare, Shobha Karandlaje in New Delhi.
NCAER analyzed the non-tractor farm machinery industry from both demand and supply side perspectives, bringing out the challenges in the sector, and recommending measures & reforms by benchmarking global practices in their report.
The NCAER is one of India's premier economic policy research think tanks.
The NCAER Report on Farm Machinery Industry in India study was sponsored by Mahendra & Mahendra.
The NCAER Report on Farm Machinery, amongst other things, stresses that India needs a vision for the next 15 years to convert itself into a production and export hub for non-tractor farm machinery.

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Giriraj Singh inaugurated the Mission Antyodaya Survey (MAS) 2022-23 in New Delhi. The Department of Rural Development has been conducting the Mission Antyodaya survey across all Gram Panchayats in the country since 2017-18. The purpose of this survey is to transform lives and livelihoods of people to measurable outcomes through convergence of various schemes.
Giriraj Singh said that the annual survey in Gram Panchayats across the country is an important aspect of Mission Antyodaya framework. The survey aims to lend support to the process of participatory planning for the Gram Panchayat Development Plan which will improve service delivery, enhance citizenship and improve governance at the local level. He said, this survey will be the lifeline of country's development.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches 'Digital Payments Utsav'

Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the Digital Payments Utsav in New Delhi for the promotion of Digital Payments across the country. The Utsav will continue till October 9, 2023, with a particular focus on G-20 Digital Economy Working Group event in cities like Lucknow, Hyderabad, Pune and Bengaluru.
Vaishnaw also flagged off of Digital Payment Sandesh Yatra aimed at making citizens aware of various digital payment solutions. This will also sensitise them about the security and safety of digital payments.
