Maushumi Chakravarty Appointed Director General of Akashvani News

  • Senior Indian Information Service officer, Maushumi Chakravarty assumed of the charge of Director General of Akashvani News. A 1991 batch IIS officer, Ms Chakravarty has vast experience of working in several media organisations of the I&B Ministry, including the Press Information Bureau and Central Bureau of Communication.
  • In her career spanning over three decades, she has also worked on deputation basis in the National Human Rights Commission and as P.S. to Cabinet Minister. Ms. Chakravarty assumed the charge after superannuation of Ms. Vasudha Gupta as Principal DG.

Bhushan Singh (IRTS) Appointed as Secretary of National Jute Board

  • The Central Government approved the appointment of Bhushan Singh (IRTS) as Secretary (at Director level) of the National Jute Board, Kolkata under the Ministry of Textiles.
  • Singh was appointed to the post for five years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
  • Singh is an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) of the 2010 batch.

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Mines and Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, aimed at providing knowledge support in the field of critical minerals.
  • The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the two-day 'Critical Minerals Summit: Enhancing Beneficiation and Processing Capabilities' event at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
  • The event featured exhibition pavilions showcasing a diverse array of minerals sourced from both terrestrial and marine environments.
  • The summit also hosted dynamic panel discussions on crucial topics such as building India's processing and beneficiation capabilities and scaling strategies for domestic and global markets. Notable discussions revolved around the Ministry's commitment to infrastructure development for research and development in mineral processing.

Indian Army and Punit Balan Group Collaborate to Develop India's First Constitution Park

  • The Indian Army and the Punit Balan Group joined hands to inaugurate the nation's first Constitution Park in Pune. The ceremony, led by Lt. Gen. Ajai Kumar Singh, emphasized the importance of citizens honoring their duties outlined in the Constitution to drive India towards development by 2047.
  • Lt. Gen. Ajai Kumar Singh highlighted the global significance of the Indian Constitution, which not only grants Fundamental Rights but also underscores Fundamental Duties. He stressed the need for citizens to comprehend their rights and fulfill their duties, as outlined in the Constitution, for the realization of a developed India by 2047.
  • Lt. Gen. Singh expressed gratitude for initiatives like Constitution Park, which aim to enlighten citizens about their civic responsibilities. He thanked Punit Balan for his contribution to this endeavor, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in upholding the values of the Constitution.
  • Punit Balan, President of Punit Balan Group, expressed his delight in being part of the initiative and pledged to uphold the Fundamental Rights and Duties outlined in the Constitution. He affirmed the commitment of the Punit Balan Group to always support initiatives that honour the foundation of the nation.

Anupama Fame Rupali Ganguli Joins BJP

  • Actress Rupali Ganguly joined the BJP at the party headquarters in Delhi, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Devender Yadav is Interim Chief of Delhi Unit

  • Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Devender Yadav as the interim chief of the party's Delhi unit, days after Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from the post citing his inability to continue without a free hand and criticising the alliance with AAP.
  • Yadav will continue in his role as AICC in-charge for Punjab.
  • Devender Yadav won from the Badli assembly constituency in Delhi in 2008 and 2013 and lost to Ajesh Yadav of AAP in 2015, and is currently the All India Congress Committee's (AICC) Punjab in-charge.

CISF Takes over Parliament Security from Delhi Police

  • CISF personnel replaced the 150 personnel of the Delhi Police, including 54 women personnel, who were deployed for the security of Parliament complex following a security breach on December 13 last year (2023).
  • The move was initiated on the request of the Lok Sabha Secretariat who asked the Security unit of the Delhi Police to withdraw its 150 personnel from the Parliament premises.

Tripura Zilla Parishad Chief among 3 Indian Women Elected Representatives Chosen for UN Event

  • A zilla parishad chief from Tripura is among three women elected representatives from India who will attend an event held on the sidelines of the 57th session of the United Nations Commission on Population Development in the United States till May 3.
  • The three public representatives would represent the country at the event, "Localising the Sustainable Development Goals: Women in Local Governance in India Lead the Way", organised by the UN Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) in New York. They were selected by the Union Ministry for Panchayati Raj.
  • Among the three women is Supriya Das Dutta, the zilla parishad sabhadhipati in Sepahijala district in Tripura.

Delhi Congress Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely Resigns from Top Post

  • Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from the top party post, condemning Congress' decision to ally with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress and the AAP decided to form an alliance in the national capital for the elections. The Congress will contest three seats while the AAP will battle on four seats.
  • Lovely was appointed the Delhi Cong chief in 2023. 

Sunil Kumar Yadav (IRS) Appointed as Director of Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs

  • The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has welcomed a new addition to its leadership team. Sunil Kumar Yadav, an officer from the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), has been appointed as the Director of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.
  • The appointment of Sunil Kumar Yadav was made under the Central Staffing Scheme, as per an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). The order specifies that Yadav's tenure as Director of MoHUA will be for a period of five years from the date of assuming charge or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.
  • As the Director of MoHUA, Sunil Kumar Yadav will be responsible for overseeing various aspects of urban development, including housing, urban planning, infrastructure development, and smart city initiatives. His leadership will be instrumental in ensuring effective implementation of government programs and policies related to urban affairs.
