Aayan Khan, the Youngest Player in Men's T20 World Cup 2022

  • UAE's Aayan Khan, the 16-year-old all-rounder, is the youngest player to feature in the men's T20 World Cup. He was picked in the UAE XI for the team's first match of the T20 World Cup against the Netherlands at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong. He impressed in the U19 World Cup earlier this year with 93 and one for 13 in UAE's 82-run win over West Indies. Aayan was out for a seven-ball five against the Netherlands. He then bowled three overs for 15 runs and picked a wicket.
  • Aayan broke Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir's record. The left-arm quick played his first T20 World Cup when he was 17 years and 55 days old.
  • Notably: Netherlands' Stephan Myburgh, at 38 years and 230 days, is the oldest in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Hong Kong's Ryan Campbell played in the 2016 World Cup when he was 44 years and 33 days old.

Manish, Vaidehi win Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship

  • Manish Sureshkumar and Vaidehi Chaudhari won the men's and women's singles titles respectively in the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship at the DLTA complex, New Delhi.
  • In the women's final, Vaidehi cruised past Sai Samhitha Chamarthi 6-2, 6-0.
  • In the men's final, Manish Sureshkumar played with purpose and professionalism as he dismantled the challenge from Digvijay Pratap Singh 6-2, 6-3.

FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup: India Lose 0-5 to Brazil, End Campaign with All-loss Record

  • India ended their FIFA Women's Under-17 World Cup campaign with an all-loss record and without scoring a goal as they suffered a 0-5 defeat to Brazil in their last group match.
  • Debutants India had lost to USA (0-8) and Morocco (0-3) in their previous Group A matches. They finished last in the four-team group without any point while conceding 16 goals in the three matches.
  • USA, who beat Morocco 4-0 in Margao, topped the pool and qualified for the quarterfinals along with Brazil.

Pat Cummins Replaces Aaron Finch as Australia's New ODI Captain

  • Pace spearhead Pat Cummins was named as Australia's new ODI captain following Aaron Finch's retirement from the format last month.
  • Cummins beat the likes of Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell March and Alex Carey to be appointed as Australia's 27th ODI skipper.
  • David Warner was not considered for the job as his lifetime leadership ban still remains with Cricket Australia (CA) contemplating a change in its code of conduct.
  • CA confirmed that Cummins will lead Australia in next year's ODI World Cup in India.
  • According to CA, Cummins will become the first fast bowler to lead Australia's men's team in white-ball cricket.

India Wins Women's Asia Cup 2022

  • India maintained their dominance in the Women's Asia Cup with an eight-wicket demolition of a self-destructing Sri Lanka in the final, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet, for their seventh title. Sri Lanka, who were playing their first tournament final in 14 years, imploded after opting to bat on a slow and turning pitch. They could only manage 65 for nine which India knocked off in 8.3 overs. Smriti Mandhana struck a sublime 51 not out off 25 balls. Despite the wickets of Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti continued her blitzkrieg as she along with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, ran away with the win.

Rudrankksh Becomes 2nd Indian Shooter to Win 10m Air Rifle Gold

  • Rudrankksh Patil ended India's 16-year-long wait for a World Championship gold medal in the 10-metre rifle event. The 18-year-old, who broke into the senior Indian team at the start of the year, held his nerves to register a 17-15 win in the gold medal match against Italy's Danilo Dennis Sollazzo at the ISSF World Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
  • The last shooter to win a 10-m rifle gold in the World Championship was Olympics gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, who achieved the feat in the 2006 edition in Zagreb, Croatia. In the process, Patil also won India a quota place for the 2024 Paris Olympics. This was India's second Paris quota place in the sport. Bhowneesh Mendiratta had won a quota place in the men's trap event at the Shotgun World Championship in Osijek, Croatia.

Women IPL to Take Place in March with 5 Teams, Max 5 Overseas Players in XI

  • The much-awaited inaugural edition of Women's IPL will have five teams and is set to take place in March 2023 before the start of men's IPL.
  • As per a BCCI, the tournament will feature 20 league games with teams to play each other twice. The table toppers will get a direct entry into the final, while the second and third place teams will battle out in the Eliminator.
  • Each team can have no more than five overseas cricketers in the playing eleven.

Indian Cricket Team Registers Most Wins in Calendar Year, Level Australia's Record

  • With a seven-wicket victory over South Africa in the third ODI, India matched Australia for the most number of wins in a calendar year in international cricket.
  • India handed South Africa a crushing defeat in the series decider of the three-match ODI series to take the series 2-1 after Kuldeep Yadav's impressive four-wicket haul.
  • Australia earlier held the record for the most number of wins in a calendar year.
  • With 38 wins from 47 matches the Australian team was at the top and is now joined by India with 38 wins from 55 matches. The Aussie team had a stellar year in 2003 when they registered these figures.

India Finishes Fifth in Osijek Shotgun World Championships

  • India finished fifth with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship Shotgun in Osijek, Croatia.
  • The Men's and Women's Skeet teams could not make it past the qualifying rounds on the final day, but India will go away happy with the Paris 2024 Olympics quota place that they earned in the Men's Trap via Bhowneesh Mendiratta, a pleasant addition to a creditable medal haul as per National Rifle Association of India.
  • Shotgun powerhouses Italy, Great Britain and USA, took the top three spots with China prevailing over India on the medal tally by virtue of winning a silver more. Both the Asian giants had the same medal haul.

National Games End at Surat in Gujarat

  • The 36th National Games concluded with a glittering concluding ceremony at Surat, Gujarat chaired by vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar.
  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Prakash Birla, Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Sports Minister Harsh Sanghvi, dignitaries of the sports world, and a large number of players participated in the ceremony.
  • Services topped the medal tally with a total of 128 medals including 61 gold, 35 silver, and 32 bronze medals. Maharashtra secured the number 2 position with 140 medals including 39 gold and Haryana number 3 with 116 medals with 38 Gold. The winners were awarded on the occasion. Harshika Ramchandran from Karnataka won the best female player of the 36h National Games and Sajan Prakash from Kerala won the Best Male player of the games.
  • About 7500 players from 36 states and union territories participated in 36 types of sports competitions held in six cities of the state.
