Second India-Italy Consular Dialogue in New Delhi

  • The 2nd India-Italy Consular Dialogue was held in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by the Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa, and Overseas Indian Affairs) in the Ministry of External Affairs Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi. The Italian delegation was led by the Director General for Migratory Policies and Italians Abroad, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Luigi Maria Vignali accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to India Vincenzo de Luca. Joint Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa) K. J. Srinivasa and other officials from various divisions of the Ministry of External Affairs, other ministries, and agencies attended the meeting.
  • The Dialogue between the two strategic partner countries reinforced the strong people-to-people ties and cooperation that both countries share across consular issues of mutual interest.
  • Both sides discussed ways of enhancing cooperation on a wide range of issues such as quicker visa processing, mobility of students and professionals, safe and legal migration, Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement, protection of vulnerable women and children, and enabling smooth travel of their nationals.

India and Nicaragua Sign Historic MoU on Pharmacopoeia Recognition

  • India and Nicaragua forged a significant partnership in the field of pharmaceutical regulation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Pharmacopoeia recognition. This milestone agreement marks Nicaragua as the first nation in the Spanish-speaking world to recognise the Indian Pharmacopeia, showcasing the growing global recognition of India's pharmaceutical standards.
  • India's Ambassador to Nicaragua, Dr. Sumit Seth, and Nicaragua's Minister of Health, Dr. Martha Reyes, signed the MoU on Pharmacopoeia cooperation between the two nations. This MoU underscores the commitment of both countries to collaborate in regulating medicines and ensuring quality healthcare for their citizens.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar Launches 'Investor Information and Analytics Platform' Develo...

  • Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti, Rajeev Chandrasekhar launched 'Investor Information and Analytics Platform' developed by IIT Madras. This platform acts as a one-stop shop for start-ups to seamlessly access Venture Capitalists (VCs) and investors' networks, Govt schemes and several other components of the start-up landscape for all stakeholders.
  • By integrating information at different levels, the platform is also a one-stop shop for entrepreneurs to search for information on government agencies, incubators, investors, VCs and banks that invest in start-ups.
  • This platform has been developed by the Researchers at the Centre for Research on Start-ups and Risk Financing (CREST) of IIT Madras. It will significantly help start-up founders, entrepreneurs and Young Indians who intend to build their own devices, services and platforms for India and for the world.

India, US Sign Memorandum on Law Enforcement Training

  • India and the US signed a memorandum of cooperation on law enforcement training between the US Federal Law Enforcement Training Centre and India's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy. This is a step to bolster bilateral efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism, drug trafficking, organised crime and ensure transportation security. The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the vibrant people-to-people ties between the two countries by taking steps to enable safe and legal migration, counter illegal migration, human trafficking, money laundering, cyber-crimes and misuse of the cyber domain for illegal activities, including terror-financing.

PM Modi Unveils Deendayal Upadhyaya Statue in Maharashtra

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed over one lakh members of women's self-help groups at a rally in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district and also disbursed Rs. 825 crore funds for the self-help groups in Maharashtra.
  • The Prime Minister also inaugurated a statue of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, the co-founder of BJP's predecessor, Bharatiya Jana Sangh, in Yavatmal.
  • He also launched the Modi Awaas Gharkul Yojana for OBC category beneficiaries in Maharashtra and transferred the first instalment of Rs. 375 crore to 2.5 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme.

CAA Likely to be Issued before Model Code of Conduct for Lok Sabha Polls

  • As per reports, the rules for the implementation of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA) for fast-tracking citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are likely to be issued before the Model Code of Conduct for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections comes into effect.
  • The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) gets enforced immediately after the election schedule is announced.
  • The Model Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India for the conduct of political parties and candidates during elections mainly with respect to speeches, meetings, processions, polling day, polling booths, observers, party in power, election manifestos, and general conduct.

PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for Sikkim's First Railway Station at Rangpo

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi ceremonially laid the foundation stone for Sikkim's inaugural railway station in Rangpo, marking a significant moment in the state's history. The design of the Rangpo railway station will draw inspiration from the rich culture, heritage and architecture of Sikkim. Sikkim Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya was present at Khanikola in Rangpo where a function was held.
  • The Rangpo railway station is part of a larger initiative to enhance rail infrastructure nationwide. With over 2,000 projects valued at approximately Rs 41,000 crore, this ambitious endeavour aims to revolutionise transportation networks, fostering connectivity and economic development.

South Boost for BJP, Tamil Maanila Congress Joins NDA

  • The Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), led by former Congress leader and Union Minister G. K. Vasan, formally announced its decision to go with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the Lok Sabha elections.
  • This announcement is first such development in Tamil Nadu's NDA unit, especially since the AIADMK, a key ally, exited the alliance last September (2023). Another partner, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) led by Anbumani Ramadoss, is likely to join the AIADMK's alliance.

PM Modi Dedicates NTPC's 1600MW Lara Thermal Plant

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicates NTPC's 1,600 MW Lara Super Thermal Power Station and lay foundation stone for another 1,600MW of the plant under Stage-II in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. While Stage-I of the station is built with an investment of approximately Rs. 15,800 crore, the Stage-II of the project will be constructed on the available land of Stage-I.
  • Stage-II will entail an investment of Rs. 15,530 crore.

PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates India's Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge, 'Sudarshan Setu'

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's longest cable-stayed bridge in Gujarat's Dwarka.
  • The 'Sudarshan Setu', connecting Okha and Beyt Dwarka island, has been constructed at the cost of Rs. 979 crore. PM Modi had laid the foundation stone of the 2.3 km-long bridge in October 2017, saying that it will serve as a link between old and new Dwarka.
  • Sudarshan Setu boasts a unique design, featuring a footpath adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna on both sides.
  • The bridge, earlier known as the 'Signature Bridge', has been renamed as 'Sudarshan Setu'.
  • The Prime Minister also inaugurated Gujarat's first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot.

S. P. Singh Baghel Inaugurates National Public Health India Conference 2024

  • Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare S. P. Singh Baghel inaugurated the first National Public Health India Conference (NPHICON-2024) in the presence of V. K. Paul, Member NITI Aayog. This three-day long conference was organised from February 23 to 25, 2024 by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) under the Directorate General of Health Services.
  • Addressing the gathering, Minister SP Singh Baghel praised the NCDC for its leadership and dedication in organizing the event, foreseeing its crucial role in the development of resilient health policies. The conference brings together experts, doctors, and researchers to discuss ongoing health research and advancements.
