Harry Brook Withdraws from IPL 2025, Faces Possible Two-Year Ban

In a major development ahead of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, England batter Harry Brook has withdrawn from the tournament for the second consecutive year. This decision comes despite being signed by Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs. 6.25 crores in the previous year's auction. His withdrawal could result in a two-year ban from future IPL editions, as per the new rules introduced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Commonwealth Games Federation Rebrands as 'Commonwealth Sport' on Commonwealth Day 2025

In a significant rebranding move, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has announced that it will now be known as Commonwealth Sport. This decision was officially unveiled in March, 2025, in celebration of Commonwealth Day. The shift in branding aims to reflect the organisation's transformation from a sports federation to a global sports movement, emphasizing its role in fostering unity, development, and inclusion through sports.
The legal entity will continue to be called the Commonwealth Games Federation, but the public identity and branding will now be under the banner of Commonwealth Sport.
The rebranding decision was announced in an official media release by the governing body of the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games. The statement emphasised that this move aligns with a broader vision of strengthening the organisation's identity beyond just governing sporting events.

India's Top 300 Women Boxers to Clash at 8th Elite National Championship

The stage is set for high-octane action as around 300 of India's top women boxers will compete for national glory at the 8th Elite Women's National Boxing Championship, taking place at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh from March 21 to 27. Organised in association with the UP Boxing Association (UPBA), the prestigious tournament returns to the venue that hosted its last edition in 2023 with resounding success.
It is held under the World Boxing and Boxing Federation of India (headquartered in New Delhi), competition guidelines. Each state unit can field a maximum of 10 boxers.

Mushfiqur Rahim Announces Retirement from ODIs after Champions Trophy Exit

Bangladesh's seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman, Mushfiqur Rahim, officially announced his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs) after the conclusion of Bangladesh's Champions Trophy campaign.
Mushfiqur burst onto the international scene in August 2006 when he made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in Harare.
Over the years, Mushfiqur Rahim played a key role in shaping Bangladesh's ODI cricket, contributing significantly with both the bat and gloves. He was known for his technically sound batting, sharp wicketkeeping skills, and invaluable experience in the middle order.

Sunil Chhetri Revokes Retirement Decision

India senior men's national team head coach Manolo Marquez named his 26-member squad, including the legendary Sunil Chhetri, for the March FIFA International Window. The fourth-highest international goal scorer of all-time with 94 strikes to his credit, Chhetri had announced his retirement from the national team in June 2024 but is now set to make a return in India's blue later this month (March 2025).

John Davison Appointed Italy's T20I Coach

Former Canada captain and Australian state cricketer John Davison was appointed as Italy's T20I coach, leading their push for a place in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Italy will compete in the European Regional Finals of the T20 World Cup qualifiers in the Netherlands in late June, where two teams will earn a spot in the main tournament. They will face strong competition from the Netherlands, Scotland, Guernsey, and Jersey.
