New telescope images may provide the first view of moons forming outside the solar system.
The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array in Chile glimpsed a dusty disk of potentially moon-forming material around a baby exoplanet about 370 light-years from Earth. The Jupiter-like world is surrounded by enough material to make up to 2.5 Earth moons. Observations of this system could offer new insight into how planets and moons are born around young stars.
ALMA observed two planets, dubbed PDS 70b and 70c, circling the star PDS 70. Unlike most other known exoplanets, these two Jupiter-like worlds are still forming — gobbling up material from the disk of gas and dust swirling around their star. During this formation process, planets are expected to wrap themselves in their own debris disks, which control how planets pack on material and form moons.
Around PDS 70c, ALMA spotted a disk of dust about as wide as Earth's orbit around the sun. With previously reported exomoon sightings still controversial, the new observations offer some of the best evidence yet that planets orbiting other stars have moons.
India among Least Prepared for Automation in Asia Pacific
According to a recent research study conducted by Deloitte and commissioned by Autodesk Foundation, India ranks fifth highest in terms of the impact from automation and ninth in terms of level preparedness.
The country faces a greater likelihood of being impacted by automation due to larger employment shares in agriculture, manufacturing and construction -- all identified as high-risk industries by the report titled 'The Future of Work is Now: Is APAC Ready?'
It explores the state of automation and future of work across 12 Asia Pacific countries including Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The research finds India, Bangladesh and Pakistan are most at risk and least prepared for the coming wave of automation.

Alphabet to Launch a New Robotics Company- Intrinsic
Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has announced of the launch of a new company that will be solely focused on software developing for robots. The company has been named Intrinsic.
Intrinsic, the new robotic firm has been announced after years of work within "X", the subsidiary of Alphabet which mainly functions as an incubator for all entrepreneurial and innovative ideas by putting together talents from the tech industry.
Wing, Waymo, Google Watch and Google Glass are some other companies that came out of X.
Wendy Tan White has been appointed as the CEO of Intrinsic.
Hubble Detects Water Vapor in Atmosphere of Ganymede
Jupiter's icy satellite Ganymede is the largest moon in the Solar System. Water ice on its surface is frozen solid in frigid temperatures as low as minus 185 degrees Celsius (minus 300 degrees Fahrenheit). A rain of charged particles from the Sun is enough to turn the ice into water vapour at high noon on the Ganymede. Using high-sensitivity spectra and spectral images acquired by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, planetary researchers have now detected water vapour in the icy moon's tenuous atmosphere.

Harvard-led Team to Search Cosmos for Extraterrestrial Space Tech and UFOs
Are there intelligent extraterrestrial civilizations capable of building technologies that can travel between the stars? An international research project is poised to find out.
The Galileo Project, helmed by a multi-institutional team of scientists led by Avi Loeb, a professor of science in the Department of Astronomy at Harvard University, will seek and investigate evidence that could represent defunct or still-active "extraterrestrial technological civilizations," or ETCs, project representatives said in a statement released on Monday (July 26).
The project will analyze data from astronomical surveys and telescope observations, and design new algorithms using artificial intelligence (AI), in order to identify potential interstellar travelers, alien-built satellites and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP).

World's First 3D-printed Steel Bridge Opens in Amsterdam
World's first 3D-printed steel bridge was opened to the public in Amsterdam earlier this month. It was developed by MX3D, a Dutch robotics company, in collaboration with a consortium of experts, and represents a major milestone for 3D-printing technology. After four years in development, the bridge was unveiled by Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. It was installed over one of the oldest canals in Amsterdam's city centre – the Oudezijds Achterburgwal.
The 12-metre-long steel structure will be a 'living laboratory' that would capture and transmit data on its health in real-time to show how it changes over its lifespan. The smart sensor network was designed and installed by a team from The Alan Turing Institute.
China Gearing Up to Activate the World's first 'Clean' Commercial Nuclear Reactor
Chinese government scientists have unveiled plans for a first-of-its-kind, experimental nuclear reactor that does not need water for cooling.
The molten-salt nuclear reactor, which runs on liquid thorium rather than uranium, is expected to be safer than traditional reactors because the molten salt cools and solidifies quickly when exposed to the air, insulating the thorium, so that any potential leak would spill much less radiation into the surrounding environment compared with leaks from traditional reactors.
The prototype reactor is expected to be completed next month, with the first tests beginning as early as September. This will pave the way for the building of the first commercial reactor, slated for construction by 2030.

Like a bruised peach sliced apart to reveal an enormous yellow pit, Mars shares its inner mysteries in the first-ever map of an alien planet's interior — released as part of three new studies published July 22 in the journal Science.
This premiere look at the Martian interior is the culmination of two years of research (and decades of planning) with NASA's InSight lander — a stationary science robot deployed to Mars in 2018 with the sole mission of studying the Red Planet's unseen innards. About a month after landing on the flat, smooth plain known as Elysium Planitia, InSight used its robotic arm to install a tiny seismometer on the nearby Martian surface, and began listening for marsquakes — seismic vibrations within the planet, similar to earthquakes on Earth.
According to NASA researchers, unlike Earth, Mars has no tectonic plates; its crust is instead like one giant plate. But faults, or rock fractures, still form in the Martian crust due to stresses caused by the slight shrinking of the planet as it continues to cool.
