MeitY Secretary Launches India's First Graphene Centre, IoT CoE in Kerala

MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan launched a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Intelligent Internet of Things (IIoT) Sensors and India's first graphene centre - India Innovation Centre for Graphene (IICG) in Kerala.
The CoE in IIoT Sensors is a unique facility established at Makers Village Kochi by MeitY, Government of India and Government of Kerala to catalyse the development of sensors within the realm of Intelligent IoT systems covering a broad spectrum of applications of intelligent sensors in networks, devices and sensor systems.
Further, the India Innovation Centre for Graphene (IICG) was established at Makers Village Kochi by MeitY and Government of Kerala along with Tata Steel Limited.
Digital University Kerala (DUK) (formerly IIITMK) and Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (CMET), Thrissur are the technical partners for setting up these centres.

Pixxel Unveils New Facility to Manufacture, Integrate Satellites in Bengaluru

Pixxel, a space data company known for its cutting-edge hyperspectral earth-imaging technology, inaugurated its first Spacecraft Manufacturing Facility, MegaPixxel, in Bengaluru.
This state-of-the-art facility spans over 30,000 square feet and is designed to streamline the satellite manufacturing process from conceptualisation to launch readiness.
The MegaPixxel facility will ensure spacecraft assembly, integration, and testing (AIT), allowing Pixxel's satellites to be crafted, integrated, and tested against the rigors of launch conditions before being dispatched to their respective launch sites.

Four-day India International Science Festival in Faridabad

Hundreds of school children participated in the India International Science Festival 2023 at the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute in Faridabad.
Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh, ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, Principal Scientific Advisor Ajay Kumar Sood, secretaries of science departments Abhay Karandikar, Rajesh Gokhale, M Ravichandran attended the four-day festival.
The aim of this science festival was to celebrate the achievements of India in the frontier areas of science and technology, acknowledge the achievements of science enthusiasts and inculcate scientific temper among young students and spread the same among the Indian citizens.
The theme of IISF-2023 is 'Science and Technology Public Outreach in Amrit Kaal'.

Maharashtra's Pench Tiger Reserve Achieves Milestone as India's First Dark Sky Park

Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra made history by securing recognition as India's inaugural Dark Sky Park, marking its position as the fifth in Asia. This prestigious acknowledgment underscores the reserve's unwavering commitment to protecting the sanctity of the night sky and creating an optimal setting for astronomy enthusiasts.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature, recognising the intrinsic value of the night sky as a natural, cultural, and historical resource, played a pivotal role in conferring this distinction. Prabhu Nath Shukla, the deputy director of the reserve, highlighted the significance of preserving natural darkness for nature conservation, maintaining ecological integrity, and contributing to the well-being of communities in urban centres.
The Reserve is located in the southern reaches of the Satpura Hills in the Seoni and Chhindwara districts in Madhya Pradesh and continues in Nagpur district in Maharashtra as a separate Sanctuary.
It is named after the Pench River, which flows from north to south through the Reserve.
It comprises of the Indira Priyadarshini Pench National Park, the Pench Mowgli Sanctuary and a buffer.

India Second-largest Recipient of Foreign Flows in 2023 after US

India was the second biggest recipients of global liquidity in 2023. Around $15 billion was deployed by global mutual funds into Indian equities (all into dedicated funds), according to a report by Elara Capital.
"In CY23- US, India and Japan were the biggest recipients of foreign flows. Outflows were seen across Europe. Barring India and US, foreign flows already turned weak for most countries in the second half of 2023," said Sunil Jain of Elara Capital.
The US, India, Japan and Hong Kong were the largest recipients of global flows in 2023. China came in at the fifth spot, followed by Brazil and Mexico.

China Sends New Astronomical Satellite

China sent a new astronomical satellite shaped like a lotus into space to observe mysterious transient phenomena in the universe that flicker like fireworks.
The satellite named Einstein Probe (EP), which uses new X-ray detection technology inspired by the functioning of a lobster eye, was launched by a Long March-2C carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Weighing about 1.45 tonnes and as large as a full-size SUV, the satellite is shaped like a lotus in full bloom and features 12 petals and 2 stamens.
The 12 petals are 12 modules consisting of wide-field X-ray telescopes (WXT), while the two "stamens" consist of 2 modules of follow-up X-ray telescopes (FXT).

NASA Sends Five Payloads to the Moon on Astrobotic's Peregrine Lander

The first American spacecraft to attempt to land on the Moon in more than half a century was successfully launched.
United Launch Alliance's Vulcan Centaur, lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida for its maiden voyage, carrying Astrobotic's Peregrine Lunar Lander.
The Peregrine lander is targeted to land February 23 at Sinus Viscositatis, a lunar feature outside of the hardened lava Gruithuisen Domes on the near side of the Moon. Similar natural structures on Earth require large volumes of water to form, leading scientists to believe that this landing site may contain evidence of water on the Moon.
