Todd Greenberg is Cricket Australia Boss

  • Cricket Australia named seasoned sports administrator Todd Greenberg as its new chief executive, replacing Nick Hockley after a five-year stint.
  • Greenberg was the boss of the Australian Cricketers' Association, representing players in negotiations with the national governing body. He is also a former chief executive of Australia's National Rugby League.

Treesa-Gayatri Pair Shines in Doubles

  • The women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand clinched their maiden Super 300 title with a convincing 21-18, 21-11 win over China's Bao Li Jing and Li Qian at the Syed Modi International Badminton tournament.
  • The result made Treesa and Gayatri the first Indian women's doubles team to win the title at this tournament. The Commonwealth Games bronze medallists, who had finished runners-up in 2022, went one step further this year with their solid performance.

WI Pacer Jayden Seales Create Test History

  • West Indies pacer Jayden Seales created history during the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh by registering the lowest economy rate in a Test innings since 1978. Seales also took four wickets in addition to setting the record.
  • The WI pacer bowled 15.5 overs with 10 maidens and gave away just five runs and took four wickets. He gave away those runs at an economy rate of 0.31 - the best in last 46 years.
  • Prior to Seales, India's Umesh Yadav held the same record when he gave away just nine runs in 21 overs at an economy of 0.42 against South Africa in 2015. Yadav also picked three wickets to return with figures of 3/9 in the Test held in Delhi.

Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan Agrees to Hybrid Model

  • Following a month-long drama on finalising the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 venue, host Pakistan agreed to the hybrid model but has placed a few conditions in its response, latest reports suggest.
  • While Pakistan approved ICC's suggestion of India playing its CT 2025 matches in Dubai, including the semis and the final should they qualify, it has set a few demands, including a sizeable chunk of ICC's revenue as compensation.
  • The tournament will be held from February 19, 2025 to March, 9.

GM Arjun Erigaisi Becomes 2nd Indian to Breach 2800 ELO Rating Barrier

  • Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi became the second Indian after legendary Viswanathan Anand and 16th worldwide to reach the gold-standard ELO rating of 2800, while also occupying the fourth spot in the latest rankings.
  • Born in Warangal, Telangana, Erigaisi earned the Grandmaster's title at the age of 14 years, 11 months, 13 days. In September 2024, he became India's top rated player.

Sindhu, Lakshya Clinch Singles Titles

  • Top seeds P. V. Sindhu and Lakshya Sen produced commanding performances to claim the women's and men's singles titles, respectively, at the Syed Modi International Badminton tournament.
  • Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, ended her long title drought by outplaying China's world number 119 Wu Luo Yu 21-14, 21-16 and lifted the trophy for the third time, having previously triumphed in 2017 and 2022.
  • In the men's singles final, Lakshya, a 2021 World Championships bronze medallist, was at his dominant best as he demolished Singapore's Jia Heng Jason Teh 21-6, 21-7 in the title clash, displaying complete command over the match.

Las Vegas Grand Prix 2024: Max Verstappen Clinches Fourth Formula 1 Title

  • The 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, held in the United States, marked a thrilling race in the Formula 1 calendar. George Russell of Mercedes emerged victorious, with teammate Lewis Hamilton finishing second.

ACC Men's U-19 Asia Cup 2024

  • The 11th edition of the ACC Men's U-19 Asia Cup started on November 29 and will go on till December 8 with Bangladesh looking to defend their title in the 50-over event.
  • The United Arab Emirates is hosting this reputed tournament, with matches taking place in Dubai and Sharjah. Eight nations are competing in this limited-overs competition, which is administered by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and consists of 15 matches including the group stages and knockouts.
  • The five Asian full members of the ICC—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh—as well as the three associate members—United Arab Emirates, Japan, and Nepal—who advanced through regional competitions are among the participants.
