Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to the US during September 23-25 to participate in the first in-person summit of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue or Quad and to address the United Nations General Assembly.
Modi, who will be making only his second visit abroad since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic last year, is expected to begin his visit with a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden in Washington.
This will be the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since Biden assumed office earlier this year, though they have interacted at virtual events and spoken on phone several times.

Moroccan King Appoints New PM
King Mohammed VI of Morocco appointed Aziz Akhannouch of the liberal National Rally of Independents (RNI) party as Prime Minister and asked him to form a government.
RNI emerged as the biggest party in parliamentary election, crushing the Islamists who had led the country for a decade.
Aziz Akhannouch is a billionaire seen as close to the monarchy.
Elected politicians in Morocco have only limited powers, as key decisions remain in the hands of the monarch.
Ten years ago the Islamist Justice and Development Party became the country's biggest party in parliament after electoral reforms were introduced following the Arab Spring protests which swept North Africa and the Middle East.
But a decade on it lost all but 12 of its 125 seats leaving it just the eighth biggest party.
Japan to Hold General Elections in Early November
Japan will hold a general election in early November under a new Prime Minister who will succeed Yoshihide Suga. The new Prime Minister will be picked in the leadership race of the Liberal Democratic Party.
The Lower House will be dissolved for a general election in November 2021.

Kono to Enter Race for Japan's Next Leader
Japan's popular vaccination minister, Taro Kono, is set to announce his candidacy for leader of the country's ruling political party and, by extension, its next Prime Minister.
Kono's decision to throw his hat in the ring for the leadership of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), left open by Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga's announcement last week he would step down, takes the number of candidates to three.
Kono appears to have an edge on former Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and former Internal Minister Sanae Takaichi in the race.

Mexico Supreme Court Decriminalises Abortion
Supreme Court of Mexico has decriminalised abortion and has ruled that criminal penalties on terminating pregnancies are unconstitutional, in the state of Coahuila.
This ruling was meant for northern state of Coahuila. It now prevents women from being prosecuted for abortion.
Currently, abortion is severely restricted in four of the states in Mexico. It is also legal in cases of rape or where mother's life is in danger.
Thus, this decision could pave way to decriminalise abortion across Mexico.
Under Mexican law, this ruling will now apply to all the other states in the country.
With this ruling, women who were jailed for having abortions will now be released, with immediate effect.
Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte to Stand as Vice-president
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has accepted his party's nomination to run as vice-president in the next election.
The Constitution bars Mr. Duterte from a second term and rivals have accused him of seeking to cling onto power.
There has been speculation he would seek a politically weak running mate in order to rule from the number two role.
Afghan Envoy to UN Ghulam Isaczai Defies Taliban Regime
Afghanistan's Permanent Representative Ghulam Isaczai has defied the Taliban government and denounced its overthrow of the elected government and use of violence to reinstall the so-called Islamic Emirate.
Isaczai, who was appointed as the country's representative at the UN by ousted President Ashraf Ghani and presented his credentials in July, continues to represent the country under UN rules.
