Rafael Nadal Wins Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award
Former world number one tennis player Rafael Nadal bagged the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for the third year in a row and fourth time in his career at the ATP Awards.
Nadal, who won a record-stretching 13th Roland Garros title at the French Open this year, was voted for the award by fellow players.
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic along with US Open champions Mate Pavic and Bruno Soares were also honoured for finishing 2020 on the top of the men's singles and men's doubles rankings.
Djokovic finished as the top-ranked male player for a record-equalling sixth time after winning 4 titles this season, including a record 8th Australian Open and 2 ATP Masters 1000s.
Meanwhile, Roger Federer, Carlos Alcaraz, Vasek Pospisil, Andrey Rublev and Frances Tiafoe were also among the winners in the 2020 ATP Awards.
Federer, who played only six singles all year, was the singles fans' favourite for a record-extending 18th straight year.

Indian Men to Finish 2020 in 4th Position, Women 9th in FIH Rankings
The Indian men and women hockey teams will finish 2020 in fourth and ninth positions, respectively, after a major part of the year was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed that Belgium men's team and the Netherlands' women will finish the year at the top of the world rankings.
In January, the world body introduced its new match-based model for calculation of world rankings, with the FIH Hockey Pro League matches that were played in the early part of the year.

Lionel Messi Equals Pele's Record of 643 Goals for a Single Club
Lionel Messi equalled Pele's haul of 643 goals for Santos after scoring for Barcelona against Valencia in La Liga, matching the Brazilian great's scoring record for a single club.
Messi hit the milestone goal with a diving header just before half time immediately after his penalty was saved by Valencia keeper Jaume Domenech.
Pele scored 643 goals in 665 competitive games for Santos, while Messi needed 748 matches to reach the tally, although he did it in 17 seasons compared to the 19 Pele needed.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports approved the inclusion of four indigenous games to be a part of the Khelo India Youth Games 2021, scheduled to take place in Haryana.
The games include — Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Thang-Ta and Mallakhamba.

Lewandowski Wins FIFA Best Player Award
Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski was named The Best FIFA Men's Player 2020, beating off competition from last year's winner Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lewandowski, who won the German league and cup double as well as the Champions League with Bayern, finished as top scorer in all three competitions and won the award for the first time. Bayern also led Poland to Euro 2020 qualification and was named the 2019-20 UEFA Men's Player of the Year in October.

Yogasana Recognised as a Competitive Sport by the Sports Ministry
The Ministry of AYUSH and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the formal recognition of Yogasana as a competitive sport, with an aim of enhancing interest in Yoga among people around the globe. Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the competitions that will arise out of the recognition of Yogasana as a sport will enhance interest in Yoga among people around the globe.
As per Rijiju, the ministry is planning to include Yogasana as a sport discipline in Khelo India and in the University Games and we will also pitch it at the National Games but the aim and objective of any sport is to be included in Olympics.
The government's decision to recognise Yogasana as a competitive sport comes after 3-4 years of wide consultations with the stakeholders of the Yoga sector.
Simranjeet Enters Boxing World Cup Final
Indian boxer Simranjeet Kaur stormed into the 60 kg final of the World Cup in Cologne. Sonia Lather (57 kg) set up a semifinal clash against compatriot Manisha. In the men's section, Satish Kumar (+91 kg) and Mohammed Hussamuddin (57 kg) entered the semis.
