Raaj Anand Takes Oath as Delhi Minister after Rajendra Gautam's Resignation

  • Aam Aadmi Party MLA Raaj Kumar Anand was administered oath as a minister in the Delhi government by Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena in a ceremony at Raj Niwas.
  • Anand took the oath in presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar.
  • The Patel Nagar MLA was inducted into his Council of Ministers by Kejriwal after Rajendra Pal Gautam's resignation.
  • Gautam who held charge of social welfare minister resigned last month from the post after he was embroiled in a controversy over his presence in a religious conversion programme.

UP Launches Industrial Investment & Employment Promotion Policy 2022

  • The Uttar Pradesh government launched its Industrial Investment and Employment Promotion Policy 2022 to enable the state's aim of becoming a one trillion-dollar economy.
  • With the UP Global Investors Summit 2023 at sight, the state Cabinet passed the new umbrella policy of the state.
  • The policy aims at creating a progressive, innovative, and competitive industrial ecosystem generating employment in the state while mobilising investments from across the world.

Gujarat Election Dates

  • The Gujarat Assembly elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5, and the results will be declared on December 8, the Election Commission announced. Of the 182 seats in the legislative Assembly, 89 will go to polls in the first phase and 93 in the second. There are over 4.9 crore electors eligible to vote this year. There will be more than 51,000 polling stations set up, including more than 34,000 in rural areas.
  • The term of the Gujarat Assembly ends on February 18, 2023. With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct comes into effect in the state. The Centre has deployed 160 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces ahead of the polls.
  • The much awaited, high-stakes elections are seeing a three-cornered contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The BJP has been in power in the state — Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home turf — for over two decades. In the last election in 2017, the BJP won 99 seats, while the Congress won 77.

Meghalaya CM Launches "Citizen Engagement and Communication Programme"

  • The "Citizen Engagement and Communication Programme" was launched by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma at Tura, West Garo Hills district, in Meghalaya. The Meghalaya Government initiated various welfare programs and the information should be disseminated for the larger benefit of the public.
  • The "Citizen Engagement and Communication Programme" program aims at grassroots penetration of all schemes so that governance is improved in all aspects. The program will create much-needed awareness amongst the masses so that people will have the right information to avail benefits of the schemes being launched by the Government. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma encouraged the team to sensitize themselves so that they can in turn sensitize the public regarding all the available schemes.

Khattar Launches 'CM Dashboard' for Live Monitoring of Departments

  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the "CM dashboard" and said that the portal will have real-time data of all departments and decisions taken on major schemes.
  • Live monitoring of every department at the block, district and panchayat levels will be done.
  • The portal will also have information about decisions taken by the administrative wing on major schemes. This will enable tracking of methodology and analysis of reports, further helping in comparison of old and new data.
  • Departments will link their day-to-day activities for effective monitoring, the Chief Minister said. "Whether timelines and deadlines of a particular task are being met can be known. Which department had set what target for a particular task, whether that was achieved or if anyone defaulted and for what reason will be known.

Goa Hosts Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) Asia Pacific Conference

  • Goa hosted the three day Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) Conference from 1st to 3rd November 2022. Across the three days, delegates and exhibitors from the Asia Pacific region and beyond discussed and collaborated on the key issues that will help shape the future of Asia's aviation industry and turn the Complete Air Traffic System (CATS) Global Council's vision for the skies of 2045 into a reality. Dr Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.), Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, and for Road Transport and Highways, Simon Hocquard, Director General, CANSO and Rajiv Bansal, Secretary of Civil Aviation addressed the conference. "Think Global, Collaborate Regional, Accomplish Local" was the theme of this year's conference.

Union Cabinet Approves Naming Hollongi Airport as Donyi Polo Airport

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved naming of greenfield airport at Hollongi, Itanagar, as 'Donyi Polo Airport.
  • The resolution was passed by the state government of Arunachal Pradesh to name the airport as 'Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar', which reflect the people's reverence of the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo) to symbolize the traditions and rich cultural heritage of the state.
  • The Centre had granted an 'in-principle' approval for development of Hollongi greenfield airport in January 2019. The project is being developed by Airports Authority of India (AAI) with the help of central government and the Arunachal Pradesh government at a cost of Rs. 646 crore.
  • The Donyi Polo Airport in Itanagar is northeast India`s 16th airport.

Gujarat Government Set Up Committee to Implement Uniform Civil Code

  • With Gujarat headed to Assembly elections and awaiting the release of the poll schedule, state Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced that the cabinet had decided to form a committee for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state.
  • Gujarat is the second BJP-ruled state after Uttarakhand to constitute a committee of experts on the UCC. Chief Ministers of Himachal Pradesh and Assam, also ruled by the BJP, too have backed the UCC proposal.
  • The committee will be constituted under the leadership of a retired judge of the High Court. The cabinet has given the Chief Minister the right to constitute the committee and it is expected to comprise three-four members.

PM Asks Four States Govts to Prepare Roadmap to Develop Mangarh Dham

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the governments of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra to hold detailed discussions and prepare a roadmap to develop the Mangarh Dham.
  • The dham, a memorial for around 1,500 tribals massacred by the British army in 1913, is located in Rajasthan's Banswara district on the Gujarat and the desert state's border, a region with a large tribal population.
  • The four states together under the leadership of the Centre can develop the memorial more so that tribal leader Govind Guru's place, Mangarh Dham, can create an identity at the global level, Modi said addressing a gathering.
  • The tribals massacred in 1913 were being led by social reformer and tribal leader Govind Guru.

IAS Giridhar Aramane Takes Charge as New Defence Secretary

  • Seasoned bureaucrat Giridhar Aramane assumed charge as the new defence secretary at a time the government has been focusing on modernising the three services.
  • Aramane, a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was serving as secretary of the ministry of road transport and highways prior to his new assignment.
  • Aramane succeeded Ajay Kumar, who retired from service.
  • In his 32-year career as an IAS officer, Aramane has held various important positions in the central government as well as the Andhra Pradesh government.
  • He also served as an additional secretary in the cabinet secretariat. Aramane looked after the exploration division in the ministry of petroleum and natural gas and was executive director in-charge of inspections in the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA).

Income Tax Department Launches HARIT Aaykar Initiative to Create Micro-Forests

  • The Income Tax Department launched the HARIT Aaykar initiative to increase greenery and create micro-forests.
  • HARIT is the abbreviation of Hariyali Achievement Resolution by Income Tax. Under this initiative, the Department resolves to increase the green cover by planting trees and creating micro-forests in and around Income Tax Department's buildings and other public areas.

CEC Rajiv Kumar along with EC Anup Chandra Pandey Inaugurate Two-day International Conference

  • Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey inaugurated a two-day international conference in New Delhi. The theme of the conference was 'Role, Framework, and Capacity of Election Management Bodies'. In his keynote address at the inaugural ceremony, the CEC said that free, fair, inclusive, accessible, and inducement-free elections being a cornerstone of a democratic polity, is a precondition to peace and developmental dividends.

IFS Rajesh Ranjan Appointed as Next Indian Envoy to Ivory Coast

  • Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Dr. Rajesh Ranjan was appointed as the next Indian Ambassador to the West African nation of Cote d'Ivoire.
  • Dr. Rajesh Ranjan joined the Indian Foreign Service in December 2001. He has served in the Indian Embassy in Moscow as Second/Third Secretary dealing with Political and Commercial issues (August 2003-July 2004).
