Ronaldo, Mbappe among the Big Winners at the Globe Soccer Awards

The 12th edition of the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards took place in the Burj Khalifa - with Robert Lewandowski among the night's big winners.
The Poland and Bayern Munich striker capped a record-breaking year by securing the Maradona award for the year's best goalscorer - and the fans' player of the year award.
Cristiano Ronaldo - who was on duty with Manchester United against Newcastle at the time of the ceremony - sent a video message in recognition of his award as top goalscorer of all time.
Kylian Mbapp was honoured as the men's player of the year - Alexia Putellas lifted the women's title.

Ashwin among Four Nominees for ICC Test Cricketer of the Year Award

Seasoned India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was shortlisted as one of the four nominees for the ICC Test Cricketer of the year award.
Besides Ashwin, England skipper Joe Root, New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson and Sri Lanka opener Dimuth Karunaratne were the others to be nominated for the prestigious award, which recognise the outstanding achievements and feats in cricket over the past year.
The winner of the award will be announced on January 24.

Himachal Pradesh Wins Hazare Trophy

Himachal Pradesh won their biggest prize in cricket with a stunning 11-run victory over the mighty Tamil Nadu in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Youngster Shubham Arora scored his maiden List A century as HP downed five-time champions Tamil Nadu under the VJD method, winning their first limited-overs championship.
Tamil Nadu has been the best domestic side in the country in white-ball cricket since the 2019-20 season. After losing the finals of the one-day and T20 competitions in 2019, the team has won back-to-back titles in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but underdogs Himachal outplayed the favourites.

SAFF U 19 Women's Championship: Bangladesh Defeat India

Bangladesh women team won the SAFF U 19 Women's Championship by defeating India in the final. Shaheda Akter Ripa of Bangladesh scored the maximum number of goals in the tournament. She received the 'most valuable player' award. The 2021 SAFF U-19 Women's Championship was the 2nd edition of the SAFF U-19 Women's Championship.
The tournament was organized from 11 to 22 December 2021 at BSSS Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka. Five countries have participated in the 2021 SAFF U-19 Women's Championship. Pakistan Football Federation was suspended by FIFA in April 2021 so it didn't participate in this competition.

Anahat Singh Becomes First Indian Girl to Win Jr Squash Open in US

Indian teenager Anahat Singh has scripted history by winning the U-15 girls category of the prestigious Junior US Open Squash tournament in Philadelphia. The 13-year-old girl from Delhi overcame powerhouse Egypt's Jayda Marei in the final match 11-9, 11-5, 8-11, 11-5 played at the Arlen Spectre Centre. More than 850 squash junior players, representing 41 countries, participated in the World's largest junior individuals squash tournament.

Harbhajan Singh Announces Retirement from all Forms of Cricket

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh announced retirement from all forms of competitive cricket.
The veteran off-spinner bagged 417 wickets in 103 Test matches, 269 wickets in 236 ODI matches and 25 wickets in 28 T20I matches. Harbhajan played 163 matches in the IPL across 13 seasons for Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders and took 150 wickets at an average of 26.
Harbhajan, who made his India debut during an ODI against New Zealand at Sharjah in 1998, last played for the country in March, 2016 during a T20I against the UAE at Dhaka.

IPL 2022: Brian Lara, Dale Steyn among SRH's new Coaching Staff

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) announced its new coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.
Former West Indies skipper Brian Lara and fast bowler Dale Steyn will be SRH's batting and pace bowling coach respectively.
Former Sri Lanka bowler Muttiah Muralitharan has also been roped in as the spin bowling coach of SRH while former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani will be handling scouting duties along with being the fielding coach.
Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has returned to his role as head coach of SRH and Simon Katich will be Moody's deputy.

Harjinder Singh Named India's Chef de Mission for Beijing Olympics

Harjinder Singh was appointed as India's Chef De Mission for the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Singh led the Indian contingent in the 2018 Winter Olympics as well, which was held in Pyeonchang in South Korea.
The Beijing Games, the 24th edition of the showpiece that started way back in 1924, will be held from February 4 to 20.

South Korea Wins Asian Hockey Champions Trophy

South Korea won the Asian Hockey Champions trophy at Dhaka beating Japan at a shootout in the final.
This is the first time that South Korea became the Asian Hockey champion.
Olympic bronze medallist India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 4-3 in a pulsating third-fourth place play-off match to win the bronze medal at the Asian Champions Trophy men's hockey tournament.
It was India's second win over Pakistan in the tournament after having beaten the same opponents 3-1 in the round-robin stages.
