Forbes List of Most Powerful Countries: America Tops

  • Forbes released its 2025 list of the world's 10 most powerful countries, with the United States leading the global rankings, followed by China in second place and Israel rounding up the list at the tenth spot. The rankings are based on several critical factors including leadership, economic influence, political power, great international alliances and military strength. According to Forbes, this ranking method has been developed by BAV Group researchers led by Professor David Reibstein of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and associated with US News & World Report.
  • Below are the world's top 10 most powerful nations in 2025, along with India's standing and ranking on the list:
  • The US stands at the top of the rank with a GDP of $30.34 trillion and with a population of 34.5 crore.
  • China is the second most powerful country, with a GDP of $19.53 trillion and a population of 1.419 billion.
  • Russia, with a $2.2 trillion GDP and a population of 84 million, ranks third on the list of the world's most powerful countries.
  • The United Kingdom is fourth on the list this year, with a GDP of $3.73 trillion and a population of 69 million.
  • Germany ranks fifth on the list. It possesses a $4.92 trillion economy and has a population of 8.54 crore.
  • Due to the combination of economic power, technological advancement and military strength, South Korea was ranked sixth on the list. It has a GDP of $1.95 trillion and a population of 5.17 crore.
  • France ranks in the world with a GDP of $3.28 trillion and a population of 6.65 crore.
  • Japan, with a GDP of $4.39 trillion and a population of 12.37 million, ranks eighth.
  • Saudi Arabia ranks ninth with a GDP of $1.14 trillion and a population of 3.39 crore.
  • Israel ranks tenth on the list this year. It has a GDP of $550.91 billion and a population of 93.8 lakh.
  • India ranks 12th among the world's most powerful countries, with its GDP estimated at $3.55 trillion and a population of 1.43 billion.

UK Becomes First Country to Criminalise AI-Generated Child Abuse Content

  • The United Kingdom is taking a historic step in the fight against child sexual abuse by becoming the first country to criminalise AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The British government introduced strict legal measures to tackle the exploitation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the creation and distribution of child abuse content. These measures aim to prevent the misuse of generative AI tools for the production of CSAM and ensure severe punishments for offenders.
  • the UK Home Office announced a series of legislative changes aimed at curbing AI-generated CSAM. These laws will be part of a broader Crime and Policing Bill, expected to be tabled in Parliament in the coming weeks. The move comes in response to growing concerns that AI-powered tools are being used to create highly realistic CSAM, making it easier to spread and harder to detect.

Panama Withdraws From China's Belt and Road Initiative

  • Panama will not renew its participation in China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), President José Raúl Mulino announced. The decision makes Panama the first Latin American country to withdraw from the global infrastructure initiative.
  • The decision came during a meeting between Mulino and US Secretary of State Rubio, who issued a warning to the Panamanian leader: immediately reduce Chinese influence over the Panama Canal or face potential retaliation from the US.
  • Panama initially joined the initiative in 2017 under a previous administration.

Dubai Hosts World's Leading Medical Laboratory Exhibition

  • The 24th edition of Medlab Middle East commenced at the Dubai World Trade Centre, United Arab Emirates bringing together over 800 exhibitors from 40 countries for a four-day showcase of medical laboratory technology and healthcare innovation.
  • The event, running from February 3 to 6, is expected to attract over 20,000 attendees. This reinforces its status as a premier global medical laboratory exhibition.
  • With 62 Indian companies participating, the congress offers a multidisciplinary platform featuring 12 CME-accredited live conferences, including a new Lab Automation conference track.
  • This year's event also introduces several specialised forums, such as the Women's Health Leadership Forum, Precision Medicine Leadership Forum, ABC Health Forum, Global Lab Leaders' Breakfast Forum, and GCC Lab Leaders' Breakfast Forum.

Bart De Wever Sworn in as Belgian Prime Minister

  • Conservative Bart De Wever was sworn in as Belgium's new Prime Minister, after striking a hard-fought coalition deal that moved the country to the right.
  • The agreement, struck after seven months of negotiations, makes De Wever the first nationalist from Dutch-speaking Flanders to be named Belgian premier.
  • Bart De Wever took the oath of office before King Philippe, in a ceremony at the royal palace in Brussels.

  • India is set to host the BRICS Youth Council Entrepreneurship Working Group Meeting from March 3 to 7, 2025, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. This event, themed "Youth Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Growth," will bring together around 45 youth representatives from BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—to strengthen cooperation in entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • The discussions will focus on building a framework for young entrepreneurs across BRICS countries and enhancing their participation in global markets.

Netanyahu Appoints Eyal Zamir as New Chief of Israel Defense Forces
