CEC Gyanesh Kumar Holds Bilateral Meetings with Heads of Election Management Bodies

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar held a series of bilateral meetings with the Heads of various Election Management Bodies (EMBs) on the sidelines of his visit to Sweden where he attended the International IDEA Stockholm Conference on Electoral Integrity.
These engagements aim to further strengthen India's longstanding partnerships in election management and democratic cooperation. During the bilateral meetings, CEC Gyanesh Kumar held one-on-one discussions with heads and senior officials from several Election Management Bodies (EMBs), covering a wide range of global electoral experiences and innovations.

India Pavilion among the Top Pavilions at World Expo Osaka

Jitendra Singh Leads High-level Indian Delegation at the International Meet on Oceans

Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh is leading a high-level Indian delegation at the International Meet on Oceans being held from June 9 to 13 in Nice, France. The high-level international gathering brings together leaders, scientists, policymakers, and civil society actors from across the globe to discuss sustainable ocean governance and concrete actions for the health of the world's oceans.
The third edition of the UN Ocean Conference, co-hosted by France and Costa Rica, focuses on key themes such as restoring marine ecosystems, reducing marine pollution, promoting ocean-based scientific cooperation, and mobilising resources for the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas, and marine resources, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 14. The conference features 'Ocean Action Panels' involving governments, UN bodies, researchers, industry leaders, and NGOs to forge partnerships and propose practical, scalable solutions.

Bangladesh Chief Adviser Announces National Election in First Half of April 2026

The Bangladesh interim government announced that the national election will be held in the first half of April 2026.

India Calls for Global Action on Extreme Heat Risk at UNDRR Session in Geneva

Calling extreme heat a 'global crisis,' Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister P. K. Mishra urged coordinated international action during a keynote address at the Special Session on Extreme Heat Risk Governance hosted by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Geneva.
Mishra's remarks echoed the urgency expressed by the UN Secretary-General, highlighting that rising temperatures now pose a systemic threat to public health, economic stability, and ecological resilience worldwide.

India Assumes Chair of 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum

The 11^th BRICS Parliamentary Forum concluded in Brasilia, Brazil, with participating parliaments from all 10 BRICS member countries unanimously condemning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. The forum also saw India assume the chairmanship of the 12^th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, to be hosted next year (2026).
The expanded BRICS parliamentary forum now includes India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Iran, the UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia.

Five Countries Elected to UN Security Council for 2026/27

The United Nations General Assembly elected Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia, and Liberia to the 15-member U.N. Security Council for two-year terms starting on January 1, 2026.
The Security Council is the only U.N. body that can make legally binding decisions such as imposing sanctions and authorizing use of force. It has five permanent veto-wielding members: Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States.
The remaining 10 members are elected, with five new members joining every year. Bahrain, Colombia, the DRC, Latvia, and Liberia - who were all elected in uncontested slates - will replace Algeria, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Guyana and Slovenia.
Latvia was elected to the United Nations Security Council for the first time.
