Azerbaijan and Armenia Sign Historic Peace Deal at White House Summit

In a major breakthrough for the Caucasus region, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a peace agreement at the White House, marking the formal end to decades of hostility over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Hosted by US President Donald Trump, the deal promises to halt fighting forever and pave the way for open travel, trade, and diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan shook hands after the signing, with Trump hailing the event as a long time coming and historic.
The roots of the Azerbaijan–Armenia conflict stretch back to the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the two nations fought a brutal war over Nagorno-Karabakh—an ethnically Armenian enclave within Azerbaijani territory. Despite a 1994 ceasefire, violence repeatedly flared in the years that followed, with deadly clashes as recently as the early 2020s.

Italy Gives Final Approval for World's Longest Suspension Bridge to Sicily

The Italian government gave the final approval for the construction of a multibillion-euro bridge linking Sicily to the mainland, a project that has been a topic of debate since at least the late 1960s but has been held back.
The government has set aside €13.5bn to build what would be the world's longest suspension bridge, connecting the island of Sicily to the region of Calabria, on the tip of Italy's boot.
The designers claim the bridge – which is due to be built on one of the most seismically active areas in the Mediterranean – will be able to withstand earthquakes.

Tallest idol of Lord Ram inaugurated in North America

Federal Cabinet ministers and the leader of the opposition in the House of Commons joined thousands of devotees on Sunday as the tallest idol of Lord Ram in North America was unveiled at a temple in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
The statue was inaugurated on the grounds of the Hindu Heritage Center in the town of Mississauga. Among those who attended the ceremony were Minister of Women and Gender Equality Rechie Valdez, President of the Treasury Board Shafqat Ali and Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu.

Canada Names Jeff David as Consul General in Mumbai

Canada named Jeff David as Consul General in Mumbai, its first diplomatic appointment to India since New Delhi recalled its envoy and five other diplomats and expelled an equal number of Canadian diplomats.
David will become Consul General in Mumbai, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced.
David, who has served in Afghanistan and China, replaced Diedrah Kelly, who left India in 2023.

El Salvador Abolishes Presidential Term Limits

El Salvador's parliament scrapped the presidential term limits, paving the way for President Nayib Bukele to remain in office indefinitely.
The controversial move allows Bukele to seek an additional term beyond that previously allowed under the country's Constitution.
The constitutional amendment passed by President Bukele's ruling New Ideas Party, which holds a majority in Congress, paved the way for indefinite presidential re-election, increases term lengths from five to six years, and eliminates runoff elections.
