Tajinder Singh Bittu, a close aide of Priyanka Gandhi, joined the BJP in Delhi hours after resigning from the Congress. The development came as another setback to the Congress, which has seen an exodus of high-profile leaders in recent weeks amid the Lok Sabha polls.
Bittu, who was the Congress secretary in-charge of Himachal Pradesh, joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and party general secretary Vinod Tawde.

Former Minister and BJP leader Malikayya Guttedar joined the Congress.
The six-time MLA from Afzalpur in Kalaburagi district has been upset with the induction of his brother Nithin Guttedar into the BJP.
M. Y. Patil from Congress had won the seat in the 2023 Assembly election, in which Malikayya Guttedar had finished third behind Nithin, who contested as an independent.

Saurabh Garg Appointed as Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation
The Central Government entrusted IAS officer Saurabh Garg with the additional charge of Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). This decision, communicated through an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), underscores Garg's extensive experience and expertise in the realm of public administration.
Garg, a 1991-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Odisha cadre, will serve in this capacity until a regular incumbent is appointed or further directives are issued.
Alongside Saurabh Garg's appointment, the Central Government has also extended the additional charge of Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit – India (FIU-India) to IAS officer Vivek Aggarwal for a period of six months.

India's First Olympic Studies and Research Centre to Open in Gujarat
In a key development for India's sports education landscape, the country is set to inaugurate its first Olympic Studies and Research Centre (OSRCs) in Gujarat. Named the Bharat Centre for Olympic Research and Education (B-CORE), this pioneering facility will be hosted by the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in Gujarat. With an expected opening tentatively scheduled for July 2024, B-CORE is poised to become the premier hub for Olympic research and education not only in India but also in South Asia.
Endorsed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), B-CORE will serve as a platform for scholars, professionals, athletes, and coaches, striving to deepen their understanding of Olympism and its impact on society. Founded in 2009 by the Government of Gujarat and later taken over by the Government of India in 2020, Rashtriya Raksha University's focus has been in the field of national and internal security studies. With the introduction of B-CORE, the university expands its field to sports as well.
