Joshimath Renamed as Jyotirmath, Kosiyakutoli is Now Kainchi Dham
The Centre approved the Uttarakhand government's proposal to rename Joshimath tehsil in Chamoli district as Jyotirmath, and Kosiyakutoli tehsil in Nainital district as Pargana Shri Kainchi Dham.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced the renaming last year (2023). It was a long-standing demand of local residents, who had raised the issue with the CM, citing Joshimath's historical and spiritual significance.

Andhra Portfolios: Chandrababu Naidu Keeps Law & Order, Pawan Kalyan is Dy CM
Portfolios were allocated in Andhra Pradesh, two days after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government took oath of office in the southern state.
While Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu kept Law and Order, among other portfolios, Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief Pawan Kalyan was given the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) launched a Mobile App 'NCRB Sankalan of Criminal Laws' to serve as a comprehensive guide providing complete information about the new criminal laws at one place. The New criminal laws will come into force from the 1st of next month (July 2024).
This App is a compilation of new criminal laws namely Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. It provides an Index linking all Chapters and Sections of the new laws. This App is useful for the General Public, Court Officers, Advocates, Law Students as well as for Police Officers in enhancing their knowledge about the New Criminal Laws. Sankalan app will be available for download on Google Play Store, Apple Store and its desktop version may be downloaded from official websites of MHA and NCRB.

Former IAS Officer P. K. Mishra to Continue as Principal Secretary to PM Modi
Former IAS officer P. K. Mishra was re-appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders whichever is earlier.
Principal Secretary is a post in state governments and the central government of India. The position holder is generally a senior Indian Administrative Service officer or other senior civil servants. Principal Secretaries generally are the administrative heads of departments in a state government.
He is the 13th and current Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. He is a 1972 batch Indian Administrative Service officer belonging to Gujarat cadre. During 2001–2004, Mishra has also served as the Principal Secretary to Narendra Modi, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Pema Khandu Takes Oath as Arunachal CM for Third Time in Row
BJP leader Pema Khandu was sworn in as Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister for the third consecutive term at Itanagar. Chowna Mein secured the Deputy Chief Minister's position again and a total of 10 other ministers were inducted into the Cabinet.
Elected leaders Ojing Tasing, Kento Jini, Balo Raja, Mama Natung, Dasanglu Pul, Pasang Dorjee Sona, Gabriel Denwang Wangsu, Wangki Lowang, Nyato Dukam and Biyuram Wahge took oath as Cabinet Ministers in the ceremony held at Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J. P. Nadda were present at the event held at Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall.
Arrest Warrant Issued against Yediyurappa in POCSO Case
The fast track court (POCSO court) issued an arrest warrant against B. S. Yediyurappa, the 19th Chief Minister of Karnataka, in a case registered against him on March 14 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The octogenarian is accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl who had come to him with her mother seeking his help in February.
With the arrest warrant issued now, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the case will move to arrest the BJP leader.
Yediyurappa, meanwhile, has filed two separate petitions in the High Court of Karnataka, one seeking anticipatory bail and seeking stay of the investigation and for quashing of the complaint by claiming that he was "falsely implicated" and there is no ingredients of offences alleged against him in the first information report (FIR).

NCP (Ajit Pawar) Picks Sunetra Pawar as its Rajya Sabha Nominee
Sunetra Pawar, the wife of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, filed her nomination as the Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls. The party finalised her name in a meeting.
Sunetra recently contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Baramati constituency, where she faced off against sitting MP and Sharad Pawar's daughter, Supriya Sule, in a high-voltage family battle. She lost to Sule by a margin of 1.58 lakh votes.
PM Modi Leaves for Italy, 1st Foreign Trip this Term
Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Italy to attend the 50th G7 leaders' summit. It is his first trip abroad after assuming charge as the Prime Minister for the third term.
PM Modi attended the G7 summit for the fifth time in a row. India has attended 10 G7 summits in the past; this the 11th one.
Chandrababu Naidu Sworn in as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister for 4th Term
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu took oath as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for a fourth term. Ally and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan along with Naidu's son Nara Lokesh were among 24 leaders who took oath as ministers for the state. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, J. P. Nadda as well as Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde.
The oath ceremony took place near Medha IT Park opposite Gannavaram Airport in Kesarapalli on the outskirts of Vijayawada. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in alliance with Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Pawan Kalyan's JanaSena Party contested Andhra Pradesh Assembly polls and Lok Sabha elections. In the Lok Sabha polls, the alliance performed strongly, securing 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The TDP won 16 seats, BJP three and Jana Sena Party two.

Kanimozhi Replaces T. R. Baalu as DMK Parliamentary Party Leader
DMK MP Kanimozhi, who was elected from the Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency, has been appointed as the party's parliamentary leader.
She replaced the Sriperumbudur MP T. R. Baalu, who will now head the DMK in the Lok Sabha.
Dayanidhi Maran, representing the Chennai Central constituency, will be the party's deputy leader in the Lok Sabha.
Former Union Minister A. Raja from the Nilgiris constituency will be the Whip in the Lok Sabha while Tiruchi N Siva was appointed as the DMK leader in the Rajya Sabha.
Mohan Charan Majhi Sworn in as BJP's First CM in Odisha
BJP MLA from Keonjhar Mohan Charan Majhi, who belongs to the tribal Santhal community, took oath as Odisha's Chief Minister. The party picked two Deputy CMs, K. V. Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, who became the first woman Deputy CM of the state.
Majhi secured victory in Keonjhar by 11,577 votes, defeating the BJD's Mina Majhi.
The BJP dethroned the Biju Janata Dal in Odisha after the 24-year-old reign of Naveen Patnaik.
