The much-anticipated Hockey India League (HIL) is set to return in a new avatar in 2024 or in early 2025 with Hockey India setting its sight on reviving the franchise-based league after a hiatus of seven years.
The HIL, which was suspended in 2017 due to financial issues and non-cooperation from team owners, is expected to be held after the Paris Olympics and will feature an event for the women for the first time.
HI has requested the international hockey federation (FIH) for a window to conduct the tournament next year and is awaiting a response from the world body.
As per HI's plans, the revamped HIL will have eight men's and four women's teams.

Dream11 Secures BCCI Lead Sponsor Rights
Fantasy gaming platform Dream11 won the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s lead sponsor rights for Rs. 358 crore.
As per reports, Dream11 emerged as the sole serious contender in the race, with only two companies showing interest by picking up the tender document.
Byju's had an optional agreement with the BCCI until November, but they decided to end the contract in March. Since then, Team India has been without a jersey sponsor and even played the World Test Championship 2023 final without one.
During this time, the team wore new training and match jerseys provided by Adidas.

As per reports, Shikhar Dhawan likely to lead the Indian cricket team at Asian Games 2023 and VVS Laxman to be the coach. During Rohit Sharma's absence last year (2022), it was Shikhar Dhawan - fondly called as Gabbar Singh - who assumed the captaincy duties for the team.
China is set to host the 19th edition of the Asian Games, marking its third time as the host nation. The capital city of Beijing previously hosted the Games in 1990, while Guangzhou, another prominent Chinese city, had the honour of hosting the prestigious event in 2010.

Wozniacki, Former World No. 1, Announces Return to Tennis
Caroline Wozniacki is set to make a comeback to tennis after the former world number one said that she was ready to return to the Tour having retired from the sport in 2020 to start a family.
Danish player Wozniacki spent 71 weeks at the top of the world rankings and finished with 30 singles titles - including a Grand Slam crown at the Australian Open in 2018.
Wozniacki said she would first play at the Canadian Open in Montreal in August to get back into the groove before targeting the U.S. Open while her long-term goal is the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Indian Men's Football Team Climbs up to 100th Rank on FIFA World Rankings
The Indian men's national football team climbed further in the latest FIFA World Rankings, rising from 101 to 100, surpassing Lebanon and New Zealand.
This is the first time the Blue Tigers made it to the top 100 of the global rankings and since December 20, 2018 when they were 99th. And for head coach Igor Stimac, it is another feather in the cap.
The top 10 teams in the latest rankings are: Argentina, France, Brazil, England, Belgium, Croatia, Netherlands, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
