Syed Modi India International Badminton Championships

There was no title for India at the Syed Modi India International badminton championships, the women's doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa went down fighting to Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi of Japan 14-21, 21-17, 15-21 in the final.
Chinese Taipei's unseeded Chi Yu-Jen (Tai) claimed the men's singles crown, upstaging second seed Kenta Nishimoto in a three-game thriller 20-22, 21-12, 21-17.

Sheetal Devi Wins Best Young Athlete at APC Conference

Indian para archer Sheetal Devi emerged victorious at the fourth edition of the Asian Awards in Riyadh securing the prestigious title of Best Youth Athlete. The Asian Awards, organised by the Asian Paralympic Committee, is a ceremony dedicated to honoring outstanding achievements of Asian para athletes and officials.
The biannual Asian Awards features six categories, including Best Male Athlete, Best Female Athlete, Best Youth Athlete (won by Sheetal Devi), Best Team Performance, Best Photography, and Exemplary Asian Official. The ceremony aims to celebrate and honor the remarkable contributions and accomplishments within the Asian Paralympic community.

Vaishali Rameshbabu Makes History as India's Third Female Chess Grandmaster

In a historic achievement for Indian chess, Vaishali Rameshbabu secured her grandmaster title by crossing 2,500 International Chess Federation (FIDE) ranking points during the IV El Llobregat Open in Spain.
Vaishali defeated Turkish Tamer Tarik Selbes (2238) in the second round to surpass rating and started the tournament with two consecutive wins.
She has become the third Indian female player to achieve this prestigious title, joining the elite company of Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli.

Germany Wins FIFA U17 World Cup

Germany beat France on penalties to win the Under-17 World Cup football final in Indonesia, and became the first team to win the world and European age titles in the same year.
France came from 2-0 down to force a penalty shootout but Germany prevailed on spot-kicks to win the tournament for the first time.

India Set to Bid for 2029 World Athletics Championships

India is set to bid for the 2029 World Athletics Championships after dropping its earlier intention to host the 2027 edition of the prestigious tournament.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) was earlier considering to bid for the hosting rights of the 2027 World Athletics Championships but it is now learnt that it has dropped the plan and is instead looking to host the 2029 edition.

Minho & Lee Dong Wook Global Ambassadors for 2024 Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) selected SHINee's Minho and acclaimed K-drama actor Lee Dong-wook as the first Global Ambassadors for the 'OlympicTM Friends' program. They will represent the 4th Winter Youth Olympic Games, to be hosted in Republic of Korea's Gangwon province in 2024.
The 'OlympicTM Friends' program aims to use public figures to promote Olympic values. The 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics, the first Asian Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG), are scheduled to take place from January 19 to February 1, 2024, aiming to provide more opportunities for youth to participate in various events.
The motto for the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics is 'Grow Together, Shine Forever'.

West Indies' Dowrich Announces International Retirement

Shane Dowrich retired from international cricket and withdrew from the West Indies squad for the ODI series against England, the country's cricket board Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced. Dowrich was unexpectedly recalled to the West Indies squad this month (December 2023), three years after his last Test and four years after his last ODI.
Dowrich made his Test debut against Australia in 2015 and went on to play 35 Tests. He played only one ODI against Bangladesh in 2019. His last outing for the West Indies was against New Zealand in December 2020. He played 35 Tests, scoring 1570 runs with the best of 125 not out against Sri Lanka. As a wicketkeeper, he also recorded 85 catches and five stumpings.

Uganda Creates History with T20 World Cup 2024 Qualification

The Uganda cricket team created history by qualifying for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. The side beat Rwanda by nine wickets chasing 66 runs from 20 overs. Brian Masaba's led side chased the total in 8.1 overs and became the second team to qualify after Namibia.
The ICC T20 World Cup will be held from June 4, 2024 to June 30, 2024 in West Indies and United States.
The qualified teams for the 2024 T20 World Cup are:
USA, West Indies, Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Nepal, Oman, Namibia and Uganda.

Odisha to Host Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2

Ultimate Kho Kho (UKK) is all set to enthral audiences with its grand second edition, scheduled to commence on December 24, 2023 and conclude on January 13, 2024. The Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha, will play host to this high-octane sporting event.
Inspired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's vision of 'sports for youth, youth for the future,' the Odisha government has emerged as a hub for major global sports events.
The upcoming season will feature India's top 145 players, showcasing the best talent in the country. Notably, 33 young talents aged between 16 to 18 will add a youthful vigour to the competition. Six franchises, including defending champions Odisha Juggernauts, Chennai Quick Guns, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Khiladis, Rajasthan Warriors and Telugu Yoddhas, will compete for the coveted crown.
