Four Different Venues to Host Durand Cup 2024 Starting July 27
The Durand Cup 2024 football tournament will start from July 27 with the final scheduled at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata on August 31. First played in 1888, the Durand Cup is India's oldest football tournament and serves as the opener for the Indian domestic season. The upcoming edition will be the 133rd edition of the legacy competition.
Durand Cup 2024 will feature a total of 43 matches, played in a round-robin league-cum-knockout format.
There will be 24 teams competing, divided into six groups of four teams each. Six group toppers and two best second-placed sides will make the knockout stage.
Jamshedpur and Shillong have been added as host cities for the 133rd edition, further expanding the tournament in India's eastern and northeastern regions.
Kokrajhar, Shillong and Jamshedpur will host one group each while matches of the remaining three groups will be played in Kolkata. Reigning champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant are the most successful team in the competition with 17 titles closely followed by arch-rivals East Bengal, who have 16 trophies.

400 m Runner Deepanshi Fails Dope Test, Suspended by NADA
NADA suspended India's top woman 400 m runner Deepanshi for flunking her dope test during the recent National Inter-State Championships, where she won a silver medal.
Deepanshi had clocked a personal best time of 52.01 seconds and had finished second behind Kiran Pahal (50.92) in the women's 400 m final in Panchkula.

In wrestling, India finished on top at the Under 23 Asian Wrestling Championship 2024, in Amman, Jordan. The young Indian grapplers clinched a total of eight medals in freestyle wrestling, including four gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
Abhimanyu in the 70 kg category, Jointy Kumar in 92 kg, Sahil Jaglan in 97 kg and Anirudh Kumar in the 125 kg category bagged the gold medals. Rohit in 65 kg and Jaideep at 74 Kg contributed with silver medals, while bronze medals were secured by Shubham in 57 kg and Amit in 79 kg. This is an all-time performance by the Indian contingent at the prestigious event. Kazakhstan took second place while Kyrgyzstan won third.
