Google Partners with Maharashtra Govt. to Provide AI-led Services

Tech giant Google signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to provide artificial intelligence (AI)-led solutions across key sectors in the state.
As a part of the collaboration, Google will leverage its AI capabilities to provide solutions in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, sustainability, education, and start-ups.
The company also announced launching a state-of-the-art AI Centre of Excellence at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Nagpur.

China Launches Qinling Station for Antarctic Scientific Study

China inaugurated its newest Antarctic research station, the Qinling facility, situated on Inexpressible Island in the Ross Sea. This marked China's fifth research station in Antarctica and signifies its commitment to advancing scientific exploration in the region.
The Qinling station is poised to operate year-round, accommodating a team of up to 80 researchers and support staff.
Its primary focus is on conducting diverse research activities encompassing biological oceanography, glaciology, marine ecology, and other scientific disciplines.
China's investment in the Qinling station underscores its dedication to expanding our understanding of the Antarctic ecosystem and its broader implications for global environmental dynamics.

Google to Rename AI Chatbot Bard to Gemini

Google is reportedly planning to rename its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant Bard to Gemini. The software giant would call Bard AI as Gemini, matching the name of the foundation model powering the assistant.
After getting rebranded from Bard to Gemini, Google's AI chatbot will also likely get an Android app.

NASA Discovers 'Super-Earth', A Potentially Habitable Planet

American space agency NASA discovered a 'super-Earth', a planet that could potentially support life. It is located 137 light-years away.
The planet is dubbed TOI-715 b and is around one and a half times as wide as Earth, and orbits within the 'conservative' habitable zone around its parent star, possibly indicating that it may form liquid water on its surface, as per NASA. It completes a full orbit (a year) in just 19 days.

Cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko Sets Record for most Time in Space

Russia's space corporation said that cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko set a world record for total time spent in space, surpassing his compatriot Gennady Padalka who logged more than 878 days in orbit - the equivalent of nearly two-and-a-half years.
Kononenko is currently on board the International Space Station (ISS) when he celebrated the milestone. He has travelled five times since 2008. His current trip to the ISS launched last year (2023) on a Soyuz MS-24.

Birla Group's Arm, Birlasoft Ventures into AI with Launch of Cogito

Birlasoft Ltd, a key player in the diversified CK Birla Group, launched a comprehensive Generative AI platform, Cogito, the company announced.
The Gen AI platform offers support through comprehensive trainings, educational materials, tutorials, and documentation. Birlasoft further said that organisations can devise roadmaps for operational improvement, adapt to market dynamics, and explore new growth avenues using Cogito.
