GMR Sports Announces Partnership with Rugby India

Bhavtegh, Ganemat Win Skeet Gold in Shooting Nationals

  • Bhavtegh Singh Gill saw off Air India's Fatehbir Singh Shergill and won his maiden national title in skeet.
  • The Chandigarh lad shot down 54 clay birds to Fatehbir's 51 hits to win the senior gold medal of the National Shooting Competition at the Karni Singh Shooting Range, New Delhi. Olympian Mairaj Ahmad Khan bagged the bronze with 43 hits.
  • In the women's category, Punjab's Ganemat Sekhon showed why she is so highly rated as she won her second successive national gold medal. Ganemat broke 50 out of the 60 targets to comfortably win the gold medal.

Russian Tennis Star Deniil Savelev Banned For 2 Years over Doping

  • Russian tennis player, Daniil Savelev was handed a two-year suspension for violating doping regulations. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that Savelev tested positive for the prohibited substance meldonium in July 2024. Although ITIA acknowledged that the doping was unintentional, Savelev accepted the suspension, which will be effective until August 2026.

PCB Appoints Razzaq to Lead Nationwide T20 Talent Scouting Program

  • The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) picked former Test all-rounder Abdul Razzaq to head a country-wide scouting program to find new talent for the national T20 squad.
  • The program titled "Strike Force" aims to unearth hidden talent from all corners of Pakistan where T20 remains a popular format.
  • An official of the PCB said that Razzaq has been given the task of initially spotting 50 players and shortlisting them so that some of them can go on to play for Pakistan.

Devika Sihag is National Women's Singles Champion; M. Raghu Wins Men's Title

  • Devika Sihag emerged as the National Champion in women's singles at the Bangalore Senior Nationals, in its 86th edition, after defeating upcoming talent Shriyanshi Valishetty 21-15, 21-16 at Karnataka Badminton Association courts.
  • Also winning his first title was Karnataka's M Raghu who had to stave off former National champ, Mithun Manjunath, rallying to a 14-21, 21-14, 24-22 victory. Raghu had to save three match points to deny his senior, and was aided greatly by the fast conditions in Bangalore.

Champions Trophy 2025: UAE to Host India's Matches as ICC Finalises Venue

  • The Champions Trophy 2025 got a new co-host as the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced UAE as part of the hybrid model. With India reluctant to play in Pakistan, the ICC was searching for a new co-host, with India's matches being scheduled at a neutral venue.
  • According to a report, the issue regarding the host was settled during a meeting between PCB Chairman Naqvi and UAE Cricket Board's head Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan in Ghotki.

Punjab Police Edge Out BSF to Lift Liberals Hockey Trophy

  • Punjab Police beat BSF in the shootout and won the 57th Liberals hockey tournament at PPS Nabha. Punjab Police edged out BSF 4-2 in the shootout after the game ended 3-3 in regulation time.
  • BSF opened the scoring in the 5th minute through Harmandeep Singh. Punjab Police equalised with a penalty stroke in the 25th minute converted by Hardeep Singh. BSF again went ahead with Amarbir Singh converting a penalty corner in the 27th minute. BSF increased the lead when Harmandeep scored his second in the 39th minute. The Policemen hit back with vigour and made the score 3-3 after a penalty stroke goal by Hardeep in the 46th minute and a penalty corner conversion by captain Karanbir Singh in the 52nd minute.

India Wins U19 Women's Asia Cup Title

  • G. Trisha stood tall to hit a fine 52 while spinners took seven wickets collectively as India beat Bangladesh by 41 runs and became first-ever winners of the inaugural U19 Women's Asia Cup at the Bayuemas Cricket Oval.

India to Host Next Edition of Para Athletics World Championship

  • Next year's Para Athletics World Championships will take place in New Delhi, marking the first time the event will be hosted in India, the World Para Athletics announced.
  • The Para Athletics World Championships 2025, the world's largest single para sport event, will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from September 26 to October 5.
  • New Delhi 2025 will mark the 12th edition of the championships and the fourth time it is hosted in Asia, following Doha 2015, Dubai 2019 and Kobe 2024.
