India lifts Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023 title over Japan

  • In Hockey, the Indian women's team dethroned Japan to crown themselves Asian Champions Trophy 2023 winners. 
  • India overcame the two-time champions through goals from Sangita Kumari, Neha, Laremsiami and Vandana Katariya. 
  • India won their maiden Asian Champions Trophy title in 2016 in Singapore, while Japan bagged the crown twice, in 2013 and 2021.
  • Asian Games champions China beat South Korea to secure third place.

AIFF wins AFC President's Recognition Bronze award for Grassroots Football

  • All India Football Federation has secured its second Grassroots Football award, with the previous one being earned in 2014. The accomplishment reflects AIFF's commitment to promoting football at the grassroots level, characterised by several innovative initiatives.
  • Numerous special projects have been initiated as part of this endeavour, including the AIFF Blue Cubs programme, Blue Cubs Coaching Courses, Blue Cubs Leagues, Blue Cubs Football Schools, AIFF Grassroots Awards, AIFF Institutional League for Non-Professional Entities, AIFF Project Diamond and several other projects at the grassroots level.
  • The AIFF's commitment to expanding participation is evident through various activities and events, including the AFC Grassroots Day 2023, AIFF Academy Accreditation, AIFF Golden Baby Leagues, Grassroots Coach Development Courses, Blue Cubs Leader Courses, and Grassroots Coach Educators Courses.
  • It demonstrates AIFF's continuous efforts to nurture footballing talent from the grassroots, and ultimately raising the standards of both youth and senior teams in the country.

Indian Navy Sailing Championship 2023 begins in Mumbai

  • The Indian Navy's most awaited and largest sailing regatta, the Indian Navy Sailing Championship, started in Mumbai.
  • The Championship will hold from 05 Nov to 09 Nov 23.
  • The Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), Mumbai, one of the finest sailing facilities in the country, is geared up to host more than 100 pan-Navy participants who will test their sailing skills in five different classes of boats in three different formats of racing.
  • INSC is an annual event conducted under the aegis of the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA) based at Naval Headquarters to encourage the participation of naval personnel in competitive sailing.
  • This edition of INSC will see the participation of teams from the three Naval Commands comprising of officers, cadets, and sailors (including Agniveers).
  • Racing will take place in three most popular formats of sailing. Fleet Racing will be in ILCA-6 class boat for women, ILCA-7 class boat for men and BicNova class board for windsurfing open. Team Racing will take place in Laser Bahia class boat and the Match Racing in J24 class boat.

Indian women beat Japan 2-1, assure semifinal berth in Asian Champions Trophy

  • India had earlier defeated Thailand 7-1 in their opener before getting the better of Malaysia and China 5-0 and 2-1 respectively. The Japanese too were undefeated coming into the match, having registered wins over Malaysia 3-0, South Korea 4-0 and Thailand 4-0 respectively.
  •  An in-form India eked out a narrow 2-1 win over Japan to register their fourth straight win and storm into the semifinals of the women's Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament here on Tuesday. After two goalless quarters, Navneet Kaur (31st minute) and Sangita Kumari (47th) scored for India, while Japan's lone goal came from the stick of Kana Urata (37th).
