Former India Goalkeeper Subrata Paul Retires

  • Goalkeeper Subrata Paul retired from football, bringing down curtains on a career spanning 16 years.
  • Paul, who made his debut against Lebanon in the World Cup qualifiers in 2007, had 65 appearances for India. He earned the sobriquet "Spiderman" for his heroics against South Korea in the 2011 Asian Cup. Paul made more than 35 saves in the tournament. Paul captained the Indian team under coach Stephen Constantine in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.
  • At the club level, he represented Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.

ITF Kalaburagi Open 2023: Ramkumar Ramanathan Clinches his Third Title

  • India's Ramkumar Ramanathan defeated Austrian David Pichler in straight sets in the men's singles final and secured his third ITF title by winning the Kalaburagi Open in Kalaburagi, Karnataka.
  • Ramkumar, who won the ITF Mumbai Open last week, took just 64 minutes to quell Pichler's challenge 6-2, 6-1 at the Chandrashekhar Patil Stadium.
  • Ramkumar, a member of the Indian Davis Cup team, pocketed the winner's cheque of USD 3200 and 25 precious ATP points.

Men's Volleyball Club World Championship in Bengaluru

  • The men's Volleyball Club World Championship began in Bengaluru as the city became the first in India to host the prestigious tournament.
  • The five-day tournament at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium will see six teams compete for the top honours.
  • Prime Volleyball League Season 2 champions Ahmedabad Defenders is the first Indian team to compete at the club showpiece.
  • With 10 high octane matches set to unfold between December 6-10, 2023, this will be India's first bow at the highest level as the Ahmedabad Defenders face up against the finest from across the world including, reigning champions, Sir Safety Susa Perugia from Italy, the formidable Brazilian duo of Sada Cruzeiro Volei and Itambe Minas, Japan's Suntory Sunbirds, and Turkey's Halkbank Spor Kulubu.

Junior World Championships: Indian Boxers Finish with Flourish

  • Young pugilists Payal, Nisha and Akansha won a gold medal each after dominating performances as India ended its impressive campaign at the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia, with 17 medals.
  • The Indian contingent secured three gold, nine silver and five bronze medals from the championships.

Jay Shah Conferred Sports Business Leader of the Year Award 2023

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah, was awarded Sports Business Leader of the Year 2023 for guiding the richest cricket board in introducing a new league and successfully hosting a World Cup at home this year (2023).
  • Outside of handling cricket and administrative-related operations in BCCI, Shah is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) – responsible for conducting the Asia Cup.
  • He became the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary in 2019.

Amazon Acquires ICC Cricket Rights for Australia Till 2027

  • E-commerce giant Amazon's streaming service Prime Video signed a four-year deal with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to provide exclusive live broadcast rights in Australia for ICC cricket, which will be available on Prime Video Australia.
  • The partnership will see Prime Video Australia exclusively stream all men's and women's events, including the Men's and Women's Cricket World Cups, T20 World Cups, Champions Trophy, U19s, and the World Test Championship Final. The deal includes streaming rights in Australia for 448 live games from 2024 to 2027.
