Las Vegas Grand Prix 2024: Max Verstappen Clinches Fourth Formula 1 Title

  • Dutch Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen secured his fourth consecutive Drivers' Championship title, despite finishing fifth in the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Verstappen's dominance in Formula 1 continues as he became the sixth driver in history to win four or more titles.
  • The 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, held in the United States, marked a thrilling race in the Formula 1 calendar. George Russell of Mercedes emerged victorious, with teammate Lewis Hamilton finishing second.

ACC Men's U-19 Asia Cup 2024

  • The 11th edition of the ACC Men's U-19 Asia Cup started on November 29 and will go on till December 8 with Bangladesh looking to defend their title in the 50-over event.
  • The United Arab Emirates is hosting this reputed tournament, with matches taking place in Dubai and Sharjah. Eight nations are competing in this limited-overs competition, which is administered by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and consists of 15 matches including the group stages and knockouts.
  • The five Asian full members of the ICC—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh—as well as the three associate members—United Arab Emirates, Japan, and Nepal—who advanced through regional competitions are among the participants.

Gujarat's Urvil Patel Hits Fastest T20 Ton by an Indian

  • India batter Urvil Patel, playing for his home state of Gujarat in the domestic T20 tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), scored the fastest ton in T20 cricket. Patel took just 28 balls to reach the 100 – second only to Estonia's Sahil Chauhan's 27-ball world record against Cyprus. Patel now also holds the record for the fastest T20 ton by an Indian – taking over Rishabh Pant's 32-ball record from 2018 in SMAT.

India's Divith Reddy Wins World Cadets Chess Championship

  • Eight-year-old Divith Reddy of Hyderabad, Telangana, won the Under-8 World Cadets Chess Championship in Montesilvano, Italy.
  • Divith secured 9 out of the possible 11 points in the Under-8 World Cadets Chess Championship and was tied with fellow Indian Sattwik Swain and the Chinese Ziming Guo. However, due to a better tie-break score, Divith Reddy was awarded the gold medal, Sattwik Swain the silver medal, and the Chinese Ziming Guo got the bronze medal.
  • Divith, with a FIDE rating of 1784, started the Championships brilliantly by winning the first four of his matches. However, he lost his next two matches but bounced back to win his last five matches and the title.

Satwik-Chirag Withdraw from Syed Modi International

  • India's star men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty withdrew from the Syed Modi International Super 300 badminton tournament being held at Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from November 26 to December 1, 2024.
  • The former world No 1 duo, touted as the favourites to win the men's doubles title here, had been sidelined from competitive action post the Paris Olympics due to Satwik's shoulder injury.
  • They made their comeback at the China Masters Super 750 tournament when they reached the semi-finals.

  • Emma McKeon, a legendary figure in the world of competitive swimming, announced her retirement, marking the end of an extraordinary career. At 30 years, McKeon leaves an unparalleled legacy as Australia's most decorated Olympian, with 14 medals, including six gold, earned across three Summer Olympics. Her historic seven-medal performance at Tokyo 2020 solidified her status as one of the greatest Olympians of all time.

NADA Suspends Bajrang Punia for Four Years

  • The National Anti-Doping Agency suspended Bajrang Punia for four years for his refusal to provide his sample for dope test in March 10, 2024 during selection trials for the national team.
  • The suspension means that Bajrang will not be able to return to competitive wrestling and apply for a coaching job abroad, if he aspires to.

Antonsen Triumphs at China Masters 2024

  • Anders Antonsen became the first Danish player to win the men's singles title at the China Masters, defeating Indonesia's Jonatan Christie in straight games (21-15, 21-13). The victory marked Antonsen's fourth BWF Tour title of 2024, further solidifying his position atop the Race to Finals rankings.

13-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Makes History as IPL's Youngest Signing

  • Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 13-year-old cricketer from Bihar, made history by becoming the youngest player ever to be signed at an IPL auction. On Day 2 of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction in Jeddah, the Rajasthan Royals acquired Suryavanshi for a whopping Rs. 1.10 crore, defeating the Delhi Capitals in a heated bidding war. This incredible achievement has placed Suryavanshi firmly in the spotlight as a rising star in Indian cricket.
  • In January 2023, Vaibhav made his first-class debut for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match against Mumbai, held in Patna. At just 12 years and 284 days, he became the youngest Indian to debut in first-class cricket since 1986, and the second-youngest ever to play a Ranji Trophy game for Bihar.

NorthEast United FC Clinches Governor's Gold Cup Victory

  • NorthEast United FC emerged victorious in the 40th All India Governor's Gold Cup, defeating Gangtok Himalayan SC in a dramatic penalty shootout. The tournament was held in Sikkim. The final ended 1-1 after regular time, leading to a tense shootout, where NorthEast United triumphed 4-3.
  • Sikkim's Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, and Governor Om Prakash Mathur attended the final and witnessed the exciting contest.
  • The tournament featured sixteen teams, including Indian Super League and I-League academies, I-League 2, State leagues and international invitees from Bhutan, Malaysia, Nepal and UAE.

IPL 2025 Most Expensive Players

  • Rishabh Pant became the most expensive buy in the history of the Indian Premier League 2025 with a Rs. 27 crore winning bid from Lucknow Super Giants.
  • Shreyas Iyer emerged as second most expensive player as Punjab Kings (PBKS) roped in the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain for a whopping price of Rs. 26.75 crore.
  • For the 2025 IPL season, the BCCI raised the lowest base price for players to Rs. 30 lakh, up by Rs. 10 lakh from last year.
