Global Conference on Space Research in Busan, South Korea

A milestone event in space exploration, the 45th Scientific Assembly of the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) commenced in Busan, South Korea. Hosted for the first time by South Korea, the conference gathered 3,000 scientists and industry leaders from 60 nations.
Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy from NASA and Director General Hitoshi Kuninaka from JAXA were among the distinguished attendees, reflecting global interest and collaboration in space research.
The 45th Scientific Assembly of the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) will conclude on July 21, 2024.

Cave Found On Moon, Could Shelter Humans In Future

Scientists have found evidence for an accessible cave conduit beneath the moon's surface. The location of the underground cave is not far from Apollo 11's landing site. It is 250 miles (400 kilometres) from where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed 55 years ago.
Researchers analysed radar measurements by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, and compared the results with lava tubes on Earth.
The finding suggests that the cave is a promising site for a lunar base as it offers shelter from the harsh surface environment and could support long-term human exploration of the Moon.
The cave is accessible from the deepest known pit on the moon. It is located at the Mare Tranquillitatis (Sea of Tranquility)

DD-Robocon India 2024: IIT Delhi Hosts College Robot Competition in Association with Prasar Bharti

IIT Delhi and Prasar Bharati hosted the two-day Robot Competition 'DD-Robocon' India 2024, at Thyagaraj Stadium in Delhi. The event hosted more than 750 students from over 45 colleges, institutions, and universities in the country.
During the competition, robots faced off each other to execute complex tasks within precise windows of time. The winning team from DD-Robocon will represent India at the international Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Robocon 2024, which will take place in Quang Ninh, Vietnam.
As per IIT-Delhi, the DD-Robocon India is aimed to promote technical skill development, innovation, and teamwork among engineering students by providing visibility and recognition in the field of robotics. It added that the competition is an esteemed platform for showcasing and advancing the students' engineering and robotics capabilities.

Europe's Ariane 6 Rocket Launched After 4-Year Delay

Europe's new Ariane 6 rocket successfully blasted off for the first time, restoring the continent's independent access to space after a series of setbacks. Initially delayed for an hour by a small problem, the rocket lifted off from Kourou, French Guiana, releasing satellites into orbit. This launch marked a significant milestone for European space efforts, which had suffered from delays and loss of independent launch capabilities.
It's a historic day for Europe," declared European Space Agency (ESA) head Josef Aschbacher. Philippe Baptiste, head of France's CNES space agency, echoed this sentiment, stating, "Europe is back." The successful launch restored Europe's capability to independently send missions into space.
Applause filled the Jupiter control room when operations head Raymond Boyce announced 'propulsion nominal.' The rocket's successful deployment of microsatellites into orbit was celebrated as a major achievement. NASA chief Bill Nelson praised the launch as a "giant leap forward" for the ESA.

NASA's Mars Simulation Mission

Four volunteers finished an immersive Mars simulation at the Johnson Space Centre in Houston as part of a new NASA project. It was a big step toward getting ready for human missions to Mars.
The Mars exercise took place in the Mars Dune Alpha habitat, which was built using cutting-edge 3D printing technology. This habitat, which is part of NASA's CHAPEA project (Cumulative Habitat for Extraterrestrial and Planetary Analysis and Exploration), feels like life on Mars, with problems like limited resources and slow contact. It's 1,700 square feet and has different useful areas like a lounge, kitchen, and medical exam room that are meant to make it feel like a real home or workplace.
The people who took part—Dr. Kelly Haston, Dr. Anca Selariu, Ross Brockewell, and Dr. Nathan Jones—did things that scientists would normally do on Mars.

Two Gaganyaan Astronauts to Go to ISS Aboard the Axiom-4 Mission

The Indian Space Research Organisation selected two of its four trained Gaganyaan astronauts to go to the International Space Station (ISS) in collaboration with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) later this year (2024).
The mission will take place 'no earlier than October 2024', according to the information available on NASA website.
The astronauts will have to go to the United States ahead of the mission to train on the specifics of the ISS.
The Axiom-4 mission, which will take the Indian astronauts to the ISS, is the fourth private astronaut mission of NASA and a private US company Axiom Space. The mission is expected to dock with the ISS for fourteen days.
