After 11 years of gathering breathtaking imagery, and performing unprecedented feats of spacecraft engineering, Dawn - NASA's space probe for the asteroid belt - is drawing to a close due to lack of a key fuel.
Launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in September 2007, Dawn was majorly tasked to study two of the three known protoplanets of the asteroid belt Vesta and Ceres, which when combined, make up 45% of the mass of the main asteroid belt. The spacecraft is likely to run out of a key fuel known as hydrazine.

ISRO Working on Smaller Launch Vehicles
ISRO is working on building smaller launch vehicles that will carry satellites weighing 500 to 700 kg to up to 500 kilometres from the earth's surface.
The small launch vehicle will be different from the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), ISRO's trusted workhorse, and should take only 72 hours for integration.
ISRO will need 50-60 such vehicles every year.

NASA Plans 45-day Effort
NASA would begin a 45-day campaign of active efforts to restore communications with the Mars rover Opportunity once skies above the rover cleared to a sufficient level.
The rover has been out of contact since early June when a major dust storm deprived the rover of solar power.
As per reports, Opportunity did not respond to communications attempts after that 45-day campaign, it likely meant the spacecraft had suffered a mission-ending malfunction.

ISRO's First Mission to Study the Sun
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to study the Sun through its Aditya-L1 satellite which will be inserted in a halo orbit, which is 1.5 million km from the Earth during 2019-2020.
Aditya-L1 will be launched by PSLV-XL from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The satellite will carry six payloads with enhanced science scope and objectives to ensure a detailed study of the Sun.
