Power Minister Launches State Rooftop Solar Attractiveness Index
Power Minister R K Singh launched the State Rooftop Solar Attractiveness Index -SARAL in New Delhi. Karnataka has been placed at the first rank in the Index followed by Telangana and Gujarat that evaluates states based on their attractiveness for rooftop development.
It will incentivise rooftop solar by creating healthy competition among the States. He encouraged all States to adopt the best practices being followed by the top-ranking States.
SARAL encourages each state to assess the initiatives taken so far and to improve its solar rooftop ecosystem.
The Ministry has set a target of 175 giga watt of renewable energy capacity by 2022, of which 100 giga watt solar power is to be operational by March 2022.
US Tests Medium-Range Cruise Missile In The Wake Of INF Treaty Exit
The Pentagon said on Monday that it had tested a conventionally configured ground-launched cruise missile with a range of more than 500 km (310 miles), the first such test since the US pulled out of the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF).
The United States formally withdrew from the landmark 1987 pact with Russia on Aug. 2, 2018 after determining that Moscow was violating the treaty.
The treaty, which was negotiated by then-U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, banned land-based missiles with a range of between 310 and 3,400 miles (500 to 5,500 km).
In a statement, the Pentagon test took place at San Nicolas Island, California, and the missile hit its target after more than 500 km of flight.

NASA Takes First High-Resolution Measurements Of An Interplanetary Shock
NASA's Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission took first high-resolution measurements of an interplanetary shock. These shocks are made of particles and electromagnetic waves launched by Sun.
These interplanetary shocks provide ideal test beds for learning about larger universal phenomena.
Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission is NASA's robotic space mission launched in March 2015 to study Earth's magnetosphere.
It consists of constellation of four identical spacecraft that orbit/fly in tetrahedral formation around Earth through dynamic magnetic system surrounding our planet to study Magnetic reconnection.
It is also designed to gather information about microphysics of energetic particle turbulence and acceleration, processes that occur in many astrophysical plasmas.

Chandrayaan-2 Shifting To Lunar Orbit
The orbit entry of Chandrayaan 2 happened perfectly at 9:30 am on 20th august, 2019.
The lunar craft had an inclination of 90 degrees for landing.
Chandrayaan 2 mission is now moving around the Moon. The ISRO has so far performed five earth-bound orbit raising manoeuvres.
On August 6, 2019 ISRO successfully performed the fifth earth-bound orbit raising manoeuvre for Chandryaan 2, using the onboard propulsion system for a firing duration of 1,041 seconds.
Chandrayaan 2 will now be performing 4 more orbit manoeuvres to place the spacecraft into its final orbit before the crucial landing on the lunar surface on September 7, 2019.

Facial Recognition Programme For Cops Detects Emotion
Amazon has announced its facial recognition programme used by one Washington state police agency can now detect emotion, generating concerns from privacy advocates.
Amazon announced its Recognition tool has been enhanced to detect basic emotions, including fear.
The ACLU says it tested the tool by comparing Congress members to a database of mug shots and found 28 false matches were returned.
Amazon says the ACLU did not use the tool correctly. Amazon says the Washington County sheriff's office is the only agency using it.
Officials Visit Japan For India's Bullet Train Project
The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited has sought nomination of officers, who could be sent to Japan to prepare for certifications required for India's first bullet train project.
NHSRCL is executing the project that is expected to link Mumbai and Ahmedabad by 2023. The Commission of Railway Safety (CRS), which certifies new rail tracks and trains in the country for safe operations, has no experience of certifying bullet trains and tracks, which are being introduced in India for the first time.
This is the reason why officers are being sent to Japan, which is backing the project.

MANAV: Human Atlas Initiative
Department of Biotechnology (DBT) working under ministry of science and technology has recently launched human tissue mapping project called MANAV: Human Atlas Initiative.
It has been launched to improve understanding on human physiology.
Objective of this initiative is to map every single tissue of human body to find out deepest information and roles of tissues and cells linked to a variety of ailments.
This project is funded by Department of Biotechnology (DBT) that would make a database network of all human body tissues.
Those students part of this project will be trained and instructed with skills to perform annotation.
