Women's Junior Asia Cup 2024: India Beats China in Shootout, Defends Title

  • Indian women's hockey team beat China 3-2 in penalty shootout in the final of the Women's Junior Asia Cup in Muscat, Oman, and successfully defended its title.
  • The top five finishers at the 2024 Women's Junior Asia Cup -India, China, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia qualified for the 2025 FIH Women's Junior World Cup in Chile.
  • The 10th Women's Junior Asia Cup was held in Muscat, Oman, from December 7 to 15, 2024.
  • Hockey India, announced a reward of Rs. 2 lakh for each player and Rs. 1 lakh to each support staff for everyone's effort and winning the championship.

Mumbai Clinches Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024

  • Mumbai showcased a stellar performance to defeat Madhya Pradesh by five wickets and claim the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024. The final, highlighted Mumbai's depth in batting and resilience under pressure. 
  • Despite a valiant effort by MP skipper Rajat Patidar, whose unbeaten 81 anchored his team's innings, Mumbai successfully chased a challenging target of 175 in just 17.5 overs, showcasing their dominance in the T20 format. This win marks Mumbai's second SMAT title, their first being in 2022.
  • Madhya Pradesh scored 174/8 in 20 overs, with Rajat Patidar remaining unbeaten at 81. Mumbai chased the target with ease, scoring 180/5 in 17.5 overs.

Haris and Wyatt-Hodge ICC Players of the Month for November

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the ICC Players of the Month for November 2024 as Pakistan's Haris Rauf and England's Danni Wyatt-Hodge.
  • Pakistan pacer Haris won after his destructive bowling spells in Australia secured Pakistan's first ODI series victory in the country since 2002, while England's evergreen Wyatt-Hodge produced trademark fireworks in her side's convincing short-format victory over South Africa.
  • Both players won their maiden Player of the Month awards, and were crowned following a vote conducted among global fans registered at icc-cricket.com and a specialist panel comprising ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and media representatives.

India Squad for Inaugural U19 Women's Asia Cup: Niki Prasad Named Skipper

  • The BCCI announced India's squad of the inaugural edition of theUnder 19 ACC Women's Asia Cup tournament that will be held at the Bayuemas Cricket Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, starting December 15.
  • The week-long tournament will serve as a preparatory leg ahead of the U19 Women's T20 World Cup that will be held in Malaysia from January 25. Karnataka's Niki Prasad will lead the side with Sanika Chalke named her deputy.
  • India U19 is placed in Group A along with Pakistan U19 and Nepal U19 in the six-team tournament. Group B comprises Bangladesh U19, Sri Lanka U19 and hosts Malaysia U19.

Gukesh Shatters Record to Become Youngest World Champion

  • Indian Grandmaster Gukesh Dommaraju made history by becoming the youngest-ever world champion after defeating reigning champion Ding Liren in the decisive 14th game of the World Chess Championship match in Singapore. At just 18 years old, Gukesh also became the second Indian, after Viswanathan Anand, to claim the classical chess world championship title.
  • Gukesh shattered the record previously held by Russian legend Garry Kasparov, who had become the youngest world chess champion at the age of 22 in 1985.

Afridi Becomes Youngest to Achieve 100 Wickets in All Formats

  • Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi cemented his place in cricket history by becoming the youngest bowler to take 100 wickets in all three formats of the game. He achieved this remarkable milestone during the first T20I against South Africa.
  • Afridi has 116 wickets in 31 Tests, 112 wickets in 56 ODIs, and 100 wickets in 74 T20Is.
  • Afridi joined an exclusive club of bowlers who have taken 100 wickets in all formats, alongside cricketing legends like Lasith Malinga, Shakib Al Hasan, and Tim Southee.
